Zabeeda revealed & Fuse ability introduced

Bandai Namco’s annual Tales of Festival started not too long ago, and the publisher showed off the latest trailer for Tales of Zestiria, revealing the newest character Zabeeda, who looks to be a villain standing in the way of Slay and friends.

The trailer starts out with a look at Slay and Miclio encountering Zabeeda, who seems to know about Slay being a Monk (Doushi). He then mysteriously pulls out a gun and shoots himself… in the head… hmm.

Slay then narrates how the world has many legends that have yet to be revealed, and that they are not journeying for the purpose of being Doushi, but for themselves.

Next, they show Alicia asking Slay if she can be his retainer. After getting help from Laila, it appears that Alicia is then able to see those of the Heavenly Tribe. The video then gives us a closer look at all the other Heavenly Tribe characters, followed by a look at some battle scenes.

If you’re wondering about what’s going with Slay at the 2:18 mark, it’s a new ability that involves fusing with a character from the Heavenly Tribe, and control their elemental attribute at will.

After seeing the party run into more trouble with Zabeeda, the trailer ends with a first look at a dragon, which is one of the game’s key features, as seen on the logo.

During the Tales of Festival 2014, Bandai Namco shared the latest trailer for Tales of Zestiria, which showed off a new feature from its Fusionic Chain Linear Motion Battle System that involves the fusion between Slay and a Heavenly Tribe character.

The new feature called “Kamui,” which means something along the lines of Divine Convert, allows a fusion between people and Heavenly Tribe members. While the report indicates that people and Heavenly Tribe members fuse together, we’ve only seen Slay pull it off thus far.

As shown in the top image, that’s what it looks like when Slay and Laila fuse together with Kamui, that makes them into one powerful being with the ability to control fire.

The above footage was shown during the event to further demonstrate the Kamui system. It starts out with the Slay and Laila split apart, then they activate Kamui for a single attack, only to split up again.

This ability can be activated and deactivated consecutively at any given time. There aren’t any details about limitations for the ability.

Ya, it's a pretty creepy fusion look. I think it's been Breath of Fire III since main characters could fuse, in a JRPG, so, could be a fun concept.

I actually kind of like the idea. It has a touch of BoF to it, but my first thought was Field of Fonons from Abyss just with people.

Zabida is a man who hunts down the Hyouma all on his own. A wind element Family of Heaven character, he maintains a jovial demeanor superficially and can be a jokester, but when he gets serious, he has no qualms about picking a fight with even a doshi like Slay, making him a dangerous element in his own right and his overall alignment ambiguous. Given his elemental affinities, he’s said to have some sort of connection to the previously announced Dezel, who’s also a wind element Family of Heaven member, although the specifics remain unknown at this time. He uses pistol-like devices as his weapon of choice, although the nature of them is a mystery for now. Standing at 187 cm. (approximately 6’1″) tall, as we’ve previously mentioned before, Zabida is voiced by Kenjirou Tsuda and was designed by Minoru Iwamoto.

Very weird they've got this targeted for the PS3. I'd think most people will have put their PS3s in the attic by the time this releases. Hopefully they'll port to PS4 and Vita when they realise that.
It does look beautiful though, I'm a huge fan of the kind of fantasy worlds they create for the Tales games. They're like a nice japanese take on traditional fantasy.
