aw yea another FF to get 100% steam cheevos for because I'm a pathetic human being
Should have said steam release. I already enjoyed the PC release however many years ago that was.
Will be curious what they do with 9. I think 9 is more danced around with excuses to remake/release than 7 is.
I'm sure 7 and 8 steam releases were just straight PC ports. I doubt they'll do 9.
If it runs anything like the FFVIII PC copy that I sadly DO own. I will not get it. Maybe it was my shitty experience but fuck that.
They actually remixed the soundtrack for VII (and it was shit) although I believe they've patched in the original PS1 soundtrack or added an option somewhere. No clue about VIII but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Just looked at it on Steam when I got home and it got the same MIDI audio treatment VII got.
It's basically the old PC version with worse audio and the option to knock up the res, though textures and backgrounds would be the same.
I guess with this one it's GET A PS2 and ahem..Borrow my brother's Pocketstation and get new batteries for it. (He imported one back in the day, and it still works. It's a real battery eater though.)
...Since we have one, I'd say the PS version of this game would be superior. (Since they haven't changed it the only thing the PC version has got over the PS version is no needing expensive import gadget to play Chocobo World.) Well, after I get my new TV I got Cyber Monday, which'll be coming next week...(Waiting for that before I start my fat PS2 hunt..)
I would expect them to patch in the original music like they did with FFVII. That they didn't first try to distribute this via Digital River means they're learning from past mistakes, if slowly.
I had to do technical support on this game back in the day as EA was the publisher for Square in north america at the time. I still have nightmares about the 100% crash on disk 1 during the first laguna sequence if you didn't notice the clock and gil was wrong and people screaming about the geforce cards not working even though they wern't released till about a month after the game came out.
Bumping this due to the hype train that is FF VII remake. Found a pretty cool site with a lot of mods for Final Fantasy VIII for Steam. Very well detailed. One thing to note, you must disable Steam overlay for many of these mods to work. This can be found by right clicking the game > Properties > General.
