I thought it was already established that Days of Future past was kind of a passing of the torch from the older xmen to the younger ones. All movies going forward are gonna follow them now I think.

Well yeah. Plus he has the excuse of the ageless thing. And they set up what happened to him in that timeline in the last movie.

I think it just comes down to the story. Why would the older cast be in this? I wouldn't mind a movie that takes place after Wolverine comes back to the future at the end of Days of Future Past but I think the new cast is just more popular so they get priority

EDIT: Nevermind, movie takes place in the 80's so old cast really has no business in this, but I would assume any xmen movie taking place after DoFP would use the old cast.

How can Logan be in that timeline. Not saying he won't be, but how. In the movie, he had no adamantium in the past yet. At the end of the movie, he was being yanked up from the Potomac River with rebar twisted all in him, by a group led by Mystique pretending to be the young Stryker. I would assume she is making sure he is put into the Weapon X program, which should remove him from the picture.
