Them throwing Agatha in there has people kind of scratching their heads as to how far Nintendo wants this proverbial rabbit hole to go. I think Happy Mask Salesman would work well actually.

How could no one mention Groose yet? Also males that no one mentioned (probably for good reason): Mido (OoT) The running man (various games) Link's Uncle (LttP) Sahasrahla (LttP) The shop keeper that kills you with a deathray in Link's awakening. There's more but I'm probably already grasping at straws at this point.

Maybe it scrolls, but I see no arrows, so given the six already revealed, there might only be three more characters. Kinda makes Agitha even more surprising.

Also possible that they did a different character selection screen for the 'demo', like they did with SSB.

Wasn't the Smash demo all the playable characters though? Seems odd to have a separate menu for E3 with open slots..

Nope yoshi and toon link weren't in the wiiu version

Dynastybwarriors has different clans. Each clan has their own character select screen. Maybe it's just one clan? I'd be more willing to assume that they just put a small list of characters in the demo though. Not sure why they're not unlocked though.

Did a character bio take up the section to the right of the character select? If not, thats a pretty large empty space I would imagine is prime for an expanding menu as you unlock characters.

9 just seems very short if Nintendo is throwing characters like Agitha out there.

They could easily have different "clans" each with their own people and this could just be a demo character select screen (Which is not unheard of), though having a demo screen with blocked out characters could just mean that they're showing the clan page, but only the two they're demo'in are available. While it could very well be just the 9 Characters, keeping it Nintendo simple, almost all the character reveals (sans Midna) have been human, for all we know there could be different clans for each race, Gorons, Zoras, etc... each with a few warriors themselves.

Still, I won't be too surprised if its just the ~9 shown there, It is Nintendo, and its not like the Zelda universe has buttloads of rich characters to pull from that would make good Dynasty Warrior type combatants.

Idk. I would disagree with you there. The fighting styles in dynasty warriors wasn't vastly different between weapon classes. It was essentially just different effects and things like range and damage and speed. They could easily implement that in zelda world. Gorons have high attack. Medium range. Slow speed. Zoras have long range. Medium speed. Low attack. Etc. That's not even getting into the ranged type of stuff or magical shit they could do. When it came down to it in DW though each character could use whatever weapons and skills. Some just stacked together better for certain characters. Iono. Still really excited to see this.

Mm, when I think about it, I don't see how a roster of 70 playable characters does the Zelda franchise any good. Reading this article:

I come away with the impression they aren't going to go apeshit on the number of characters. Whether it ends up being 9, or a bit more, I just don't see a them going much further without really stretching the Zelda cast. Still, there's already two new characters, and I wouldn't be surprised if they added one, maybe two more, as playable characters and not just villains.

Lana is a sorceress with a deep knowledge of spells, monsters, and using spells on monsters. She’s very energetic and ready to give the war for Hyrule everything she’s got.

Lana and Cia have an unspoken hostility, even beyond the normal anger that war brings out. Lana is fiercely determined to put a halt to Cia’s plans, even at the cost of her own life or happiness.

Don’t underestimate Lana just because she’s usually so optimistic! Her natural athletic energy serves her well and allows her to quickly dive around her enemies and attack with her book of sorcery, which utilizes electrifying spells that her enemies never see coming.

While searching for the Gate of Souls, Lana takes a detour to rescue Agitha from a horde of monsters, ultimately recruiting her to the greater cause.

Agitha is the self-proclaimed princess of the insect kingdom, late of the Era of Twilight.

Agitha keeps a bright smile on at all times and looks at the world through a sweeter lens than her allies. But just because she’s so cheery doesn’t excuse her from battle!

Agitha’s parasol is her standard weapon, though her real strength resides in the bugs she summons forth in times of need, such as a giant beetle or a magnificent butterfly. Never underestimate the power of an insect princess!

Last seen as the boss of the City in the Sky from Twilight Princess, Argorok is a powerful Twilit Dragon enhanced by a Mirror Shard from the Mirror of Twilight.

His entire body is covered with hard armor, giving him extremely high defense. Surprisingly, he has a far higher bit of intelligence compared to the usual dragons that fly around Hyrule, shown mainly with his tactic of attacking from a vantage point high above the battlefield where normal soldiers can’t reach him.

Zant is the usurper king of the Twilight Realm. Once Cia used the Gate of Souls to open a portal to his era, Zant was free to continue his shadowy misdeeds in Hyrule and beyond.

Dual-wielding scimitars is Zant’s style, allowing him to swing wildly about or dash with intent toward his enemies. He also possesses a great deal of magical attacks, so approach him with extreme caution.
