There may be a much longer repeating pattern of when he does how many, I've never tanked it so I couldn't really say.

You can count on consecutive Incinerates as the fight goes on. It's at least partially HP based. By the time you get to the third set of nails you can bank on almost always getting three at a time.

To me it feels like there's an invisible clock that happens in the fight (like twinny's DS timer) and he needs to do 3-4 incinerate in that time frame.

So that's why certain times you know no matter what you're gonna eat 2 in a row and at other times it feels like an alarm went off and he just uses it non-stop, uninterrupted, until he hits his 3 or 4.

It's not a problem generally except when I'm with bad dps who kill 3 nails at the exact same time. I feel like I could heal through it if I wasn't caught off guard.
Pattern during 3rd nails is 1-2-1-3-3-1-2-1.

Anyone know if using (SCH/SMN) Virus on big nail will reduce its suicide damage?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    dumb fucking question.

    Just tried this for the first time, and I ran to the spot in Mr. Happy's vid for plumes AND IT WASN'T THERE. ;;

Is it a static spot? I watched the vid again and he mentions ne and sw, and our tank hadn't pulled it north so maybe that's why?

Vid doesn't show the sw spot idt though. Is there a map that shows where they are so I know where to run?

    Way I've always remembered:
First safe spot for plumes is 1 oclock.
    2nd is 2oclock
    3rd is 3oclock.
I believe for all of these the opposite side is also a safe spot, but nobody should have Searing Wind at this time so doesn't really matter.

Tank with hate should move into or close to this spot for the benefit of the party after (before, really) Hellfire.

If you think of the map as a clock where North is 12 o'clock, the safe spot starts at roughly halfway between 1 and 2, and moves an hour each time. The second time it'll be just above 3, the third time it'll be just past 3.

If your tank isn't already standing there they're bad and they should feel bad.

The last dash ends in the next safe spot.

There's no reason why you can't just hang with the rest of the group when plumes are about to come and use the same safe spot as the tanks/DD, he doesn't Incinerate or cleave immediately after plumes.

Unrelated, but the Incinerate pattern I talked about during 3rd nails could to some extent be dependent on how quickly you're moving through the fight or when your transitions happen.

There's also a 4th set of plumes if you kill slow.

The Incinerate pattern can be broken if you skip an eruption set. Ifrit will do Howl then move right into Nails instead of doing Eruptions, so you can end up with 2 healers exploding.

They're basically irrelevant though, because if you get to those and Ifrit still has a visible segment of its health (ie it's death is not imminent), you've lost.

He just repeats the post-Hellfire routine until he dies in that case. A group I did once had him go to a jump after last Hellfire and still won.

Every time I've ever seen the fourth set of plumes, he jumps, does his dashes, comes down for about a second, and then Hellfires the arena for 20k.
