The problem isn't so much DoTs on nails, but the other DPS being absolute idiots and blowing up the <50%HP nails 3+ at a time because they are treating it like a race.

Usually becomes an issue when you have 2 SMN in the party since there's usually a BRD somewhere which means 3 out of 4 dps is DoT happy.
lol I just replied something similiar in the the complaint thread. My FC does it that way to ensure no melee DPS get hit when they work their way around because we'll just tank swap to the now empty spot. Just the way we've always done it and haven't had any issues
It's not an issue per se, its just those 3 blowing up right as the big nail is about to go down makes the big nail do a lot more damage.
Though its kind of moot cause lately we've just been killing the big nail first, which makes it a lot easier because it blows up when everyone is full health and with 0 stacks. I don't know why we were not always doing that...
Straighter Shot proc is 20% chance of guaranteed crit on Straight Shot (=210 net potency). Therefore, we can roughly calculate Heavy+Straighter Shot spam as (150 + [0.2 * 60]) = 162 potency every ~2.5sec.
You can have up to 6 Windbite DoTs up, but let's call it 5 because of clipping/dots falling off. Windbite is 60 potency every ~2.5sec, and 5 DoTs is 225 potency every 3 sec, or 187.5 potency every 2.5 sec (247.5 total).
Consequently, you get a 52.7% increase in damage output (99pot/s vs. 64.8pot/s) by simply keeping Windbite on at least 5 targets and ignoring Heavy Shot. This is before River of Blood is factored in.
So... apparently you can LoS Infernal Howl.

Great, learn about this a week after I get the last of my weapons.
Thanks, Obama.
Well I know what I'm doing on SCH next time I get in a group. Can't wait to see the reactions before its common knowledge.
So just stand behind and when ifrit turn you go behind him GJ
Great tactic if you don't suck for sure. A lot of people are probably gonna insist on doing it this way now, fuck it up, and murder their groups because of it.
It's definitely a sweet tactic, however I find it overkill for Ifrit. With the DPS in my group we push so hard that in that last phase I find myself having to purposely hold back to keep Ifrit above 10% so he doesn't jump before the nails are all down. Me and other tank take out the 2 nails near us then basically can only attack when we need to switch hate otherwise Ifrit will kill us lol
I don't see what this has to do with damage, it just makes healing easier.
Seems to have weird timing? Tried it with my group, and he just kept on turning as I ran through him once I heard the ding that he targeted me.
I don't recommend that. If you're behind him and then you go behind him when he turns, you'll stand a chance of getting cleaved or by breath when he turns back to the tank.
You can stand to his side and then run to the other side. Just visualize his attack code and be inside of him a little bit.
Don't need to do it with solo healer though (which I do agree is a moot setup in Ifrit EX, as is solo tank). But a SCH able to dodge wind can just stay inside and Succor all the time instead of having to hang out on the edge.
Dunno, once your DPS is at level I don't think LoS is all that useful, it's pretty much just swapping spatial awareness with temporal awareness. Also being that one wipes the healer while the other wipes everyone.
