Thinking of starting on nasomi.. saw the install guide on their website, but I already have a retail install of FFXI. Is there anyway I can simply connect to nasomi without doing a full reinstall?

Technically, you should be able to log onto the server as long as you have Ashita installed (boot up Ashita, point it to Nasomi server, get on), however there was an update (official SE update) not too long ago so I'm not sure if you're required to update XI through PlayOnline first or not.

Server's been up for almost 2 years now but Tiamat's quite a bit stronger on here compared to retail (it's very resistant to any sort of magic except Summons and BLU stuff and its regen is prolly a tiny speck higher as well) so it took us quite a bit of planning and tinkering with it to figure out the best strat.

Needless to say, for a couple of hours it really felt like we had all been brought back to 2006 or so!

No gaiters but oh well, that's par of the course I guess, haha.

EDIT: also, I wasn't full-timing M body, the guy recording had an addon that doesn't show gearswaps turned on (my PLD actually did about 30k damage while main tanking, Excal ftw!). ^^;

Dynamis is on a 24hr cooldown here, and 100s drop a lot more frequently than retail. It still takes awhile to do but it's a lot more feasible.

Does anybody play this game on an Apple computer using Bootcamp or something like that? My cousin is trying to get on this, but having issues logging in to the server. He's stuck at this:

Nasomi doesn't hand out a damn thing, not even the stuff he's supposed to haha.

The relic weapons quests are the same as retail, except that you've got to wait an additional RL week if you miss the weekly conquest flip (it's supposed to be the cooldown you'd get after finishing a relic, before you can start a new one but it was incorporated into the actual quests, go figure).

Dynamis is on a 24 hr cooldown and doesn't require any fee (yet), also 100's drop more often, although I can't really compare with retail cause I've never paid attention to their drop rate back then.

My first relic still took like 6 months of Dynamis 2-4 times/week (4~ hrs/run) and toward the end my LS started pooling coins to speed up the process, so it's still a lot of work.

I think we have like 8-9 people with relic on the server right now (although some aren't active anymore or not as active as they used to be).

The server is alive and well, had you bothered reading the last few pages of this thread you would've probably been able to figure that one out on your own (there's like, a post about the server's 1st Tiamat kill literally 5 posts above this one).

Server is still being maintained, and it actually is running (for me) a lot better than the retail servers ever did. The segment of the community I've interacted with so far have been great and are there because they liked playing FFXI the way it used to be. Hope you enjoy!

There's no list, I can answer whichever question you might have tho.

Satchel/Case/Sack are in, Wardrobe is not.

Races stats are what you'd expect back in the days, so Galkas have very little MP, Elvaan's STR is super high, Humes are jack of all trades, etc. (Nasomi allows for a one time race change requirements are a job 60+ and a craft 30+...or something - sometimes he also turns everyone into tarus for the hell of it lol).

2h weapons buffs seems to be in (the very first buff that occurred sometime in...2007?), the thing is, this isn't a 1:1 carbon copy of retail, it's super close but the code was basically rewritten from scratch and might differ slightly, which means that, if you're really into min-max'ing, you'll have to run some tests/gather data with a parser to figure out which weapons/stats/gearsets/whatever work best.

It really adds to the metagame imho, 99% is exactly as it was in retail but if you want to come out on top on parsers/maximize your character's performances you'll have to figure out that remaining 1% on your own...which is exactly what we used to do back then when wikis were in the process of being built and "XI science" threads dominated the frontpage.

Because short of me playfully throwing banter at him this one time, and him sending me to HomePoint (lol), he stays absolutely neutral when it comes to his admin powers.

I don't have the time for the old-school grind any longer. I'll probably end up on a resubbing to live to check out Adoulin, and the wrap-up addons once they're out.

Ah yeah I was kidding for the most part, he did that last April fools and only lasted a couple of hours (this years races got switched for a day, Humes became elvaans, Galka became taru, was fun to see) lol.

Well, I popped in for a bit, and after killing a few things without FoV I decided that I'm looking for something much more casual these days. I don't have the time for the old-school grind any longer. I'll probably end up on a resubbing to live to check out Adoulin, and the wrap-up addons once they're out.

I started in April or something last year and PLD didn't hit 75 til after the summer, but I took my sweet time and enjoyed rediscovering Vanadiel one zone/mob/quest at a time (farmed a lot too in the meantime).

75 on my 2nd job however took me about 2 months and a half and that was playing super casually, if you focus solely on levelling and play 24/7 you can probably go 1-75 in 2-3 weeks (friend of mine marathoned 1-37 in 11~ hours last week), make it a month/month and a half if you got limit breaks and stuff to clear first (I've seen super hardcore people go 1-75 in about 2 months in retail, back during the ToAU era, so the pace is pretty close).

Level sync, a server official linkshell with tons of people in it and being able to 2 box makes the levelling process much less painful than you'd expect on a relatively low pop server.

Any faster than this and you might as well set up your own private server and give yourself Lv 75 and godmode from the get go, to each his own tho.
