    Ar noSurge (PS3)

Gust is developing Ar no Surge, an RPG entry in its life simulation series Surge Concerto: Ciel no Surge, for PlayStation 3.

Dengeki PlayStation this week reveals the game will have town, field, and battle elements, and themes based around “confrontation from coexistence,” “bonds,” “the bonds between men and women,” and “bonds as friends.”

The game’s connection to Ciel no Surge and Ar Tonelico is still a mystery, but it appears to be set in the same universe as Ciel no Surge, but during a different time period.

Ar no Surge will be directed by Akira Tsuchiya, have character design by NTNY, and feature high-quality character models by Flight Unit.

The hero is Delta Lantanoir, a young man who came out from inside Felion when the barrier wall was opened. He uses a tonfa, gun, and his fists in combat, and was part of an elite organization called “Plasma,” who was protecting the city from Sharl. For certain reasons, he was discharged from the group and now runs a restaurant. Joining Delta is Arshes, a humanoid robot weapon.

On the planet La Ciela, where the Genomes co-exist, the Sharl kidnap people using song magic. After the barrier wall opens, an ancient race with the ability to use lost song magic appear. These ancient people awakened from cold sleep live alongside modern day folk in the city’s residential area.

Battles do not use a command turn-based system, but a hybrid system with action elements called “Protect.” The hero will take the front lines while protecting the heroine as she performs song magic.

The game will offer a “Genometric System” that lets you go inside peoples’ hearts, as well as a mixing system.

An RPG entry in the developer’s PS Vita communication game series Surge Concerto, Ar no Surge is headed by Akira Tsuchiya, who also directed the previous games. It is set in a world where “songs are the power of magic” and “the power of thoughts become bonds.”

    Here’s the story synopsis:
On a planet called La Ciela, humans and “Genomes,” a life-form who possess a spirit exceeding that of humans, once co-existed. But from the loss of this beautiful green land, the people spread. Seeking a new planet, the people who flew on the space ship were known as the Shield of the Gods, who now live in front of the impassible “Felion Wall.” In a geofront called Orei, they live their quiet lives.

The seasons never change in this inorganic space. Before they could notice, this became a world for humankind. But even so, they lived strongly. From the weathered rubble they built small houses, and from the metal ground that grew no shrubs or trees they made fields for fruits and vegetables using the skills that had been lost and dreaming once again.

However, their lives were not peaceful.

The mysterious life-forms known as Sharl suddenly appeared. They kidnapped the people of Orei. Humanity had no technology to stand up to the Sharl with their wondrous power of “song magic.” Then one day, after thousands of years, without even a gust of wind, the Felion Wall opened.

From the inside of the wall emerged a people referred to as the “Ancient Ones,” possessing the same song magic as the Sharl and the knowledge to use lost abilities. With this, people assembled within the wall and began to quest for the truth behind the outbreak of the mysterious Sharl.
    And a bit about Felion:
The astronomically centered control tower attached to a residential area. The princess of the sky governs the streets of people. The complicated Geofront is a very high-tech town, and groups of skyscrapers towering 40 stories above the ground are connected with passageways. The Neons that color the exteriors and building walls are in scientific wear, and inside the city cast an oriental light.

Inside the ancient ones and two kinds of ‘modern people’ who have lived for thousands of years awake from the cold sleep of the planet era. But their common enemy the Sharl, as well as the modern peoples’ respect for and fear of the ancients’ song magic, make their relationship amicable. But although this city that is exposed to the wickedness of the Sharl is closed in by the great wall known as the Shield of the Gods, there are still many modern people who live around its exterior.
The main scenario consists of town, field, and battle parts. The story progresses as you switch between main characters Delta and Arshes.

In town, players can synthesize items at the mixing shop, or power up characters using Genometrics, which lets them enter their hearts to resolve past issues and wounds.

In battle, players will protect the heroine, who has the ability to use powerful song magic, by fighting ahead of her in the front lines. Battles will include some sort of action element, which will be detailed in a follow-up report.

Finally, a bit about the characters.

Delta Lantanoir is our hero. He is a young man who came out from inside the Felion Wall when it opened. He was protecting the city from the Sharl as one of the original members of the elite organization “Plasma.” Within Plasma, he was a member of the special strategy team “Genometh,” but was discharged after an incident. He now runs a restaurant called “Cook de Delta” in Felion.

Arshes, a mysterious humanoid robot, is our second character. His manufacturer, manufacture location, equipped functionality, and specs, etc. are all unknown. However, considering he carries weaponry, it highly probable that he was built for combat.

    Battle System

Ar no Surge uses a tactical action turn-based battle system. The main character protects the heroine who possesses a strong song magic, and attacks the enemies that rush in. All the while the heroine sings her song magic, and when certain requirements are met, the song magic is invoked.

All the enemies on the field are displayed with “Wave.” Enemy groups are represented in one square, and crushing one group will result in another group coming in to attack. Red areas on Wave represent song magic’s range of effect. If you get your song magic to the maximum, all the enemies on the field can be taken out a single sweep.

    Defeat Enemies Using Song Magic

The vanguard main character uses powerful skills in addition to attacks and items. It’s also possible, with the right timing, to reduce damage you receive during enemy turns. Use your attacks and skills, and when your Harmonics level reaches its maximum, you can invoke the powerful song magic.

The higher your burst value is, the higher your Harmonics gauge will rise and the easier it will be to raise your Harmonics level.

You can also defend the heroine against enemy attacks with well-timed button presses.

    Song Magic

Song Magic is magic where the power of thoughts and feelings are embodied in song. The power of song magic is made in proportion to the thoughts and feelings of the singer. Because the results are decided by the thoughts and feelings of the singer, song magic can be used outside of battle as well—such as to douse fires and heal the injured. However, there are currently few people who can use song magic.

    Characters
    • Casti Rianoito - A girl who lives in the town Felion, where the humans live. She is a user of song magic that changes thought and feeling into power, and by using this power, acts as a member of the elite organization Plasma, which is controlled directly by Princess Amato. She is a part of a special human-only strategy team within Plasma known as “Genometh,” however although this team largely moves in two-man cells, it is only Casti who is without a partner, and the number of times she attacks is not large. By the way, on the weekends she helps out at the Delta restaurant as a self-styled sign girl (a pretty girl who attracts boys to the diner).
    • Ion - It is said that Ion is a girl who knows the ways of the world. Her real name is Ionasal.kkll.Preciel. She acts on one certain volition, but currently no one knows its whereabouts. She is actually a careless person who loves to work with her hands. She carries materials from someplace (who knows where) and builds suspicious machines and tools.

    Additional Information
    Spoiler: show
    World View
    • Quantav – A city governed by the archbishop of the Genomirai Order, a religious group that worships the mysterious life form Shal. Shal coexist with humans in a town built inside giant jet engines thought to be abandoned. The town has a steam-punk appearance, with things like rattling shafts, rotating turbines, and compressors. The neglected lower area has natural vegetation growing mixed in, creating a peculiar townscape.
    • Genomirai Order – A religious group that worships the mysterious life form Shal. It is said that entering into the Order will keep the Shal from attacking you. Right now many people professing this have gathered in Quantav, making it the base of the Order. Followers are required to constantly be improving their souls, regardless of day or night, they work hard disciplining their hearts and minds. Sometimes the archbishop will give followers a trial, but it’s said that each time there are not a few number of people who insidiously disappear from town.

    Game Introduction
    • A world not yet experienced where you play the new musical movement Surge Concerto! – It stars the young man Delta and the mechanical weapon Arshes, along with several partners including Casti and Ion. A story of love and bonds around the planet that they revolve on. The full details on the new musical movement Serge Concerto will be revealed little by little.
    • A story revolving around two points of view – The story progresses in “zapping scenarios” that switch between parties Delta and Casti, and Arshes and Ion. By experiencing the story from two different points of view, various truths of the world are revealed.
    • Strong thoughts and strong bonds become the shield that protects her – The main character wields a weapon empowered by “song magic,” the magical incarnation of the heroine’s thoughts, providing a variety of skills used to take down enemies. If the song magic singing heroine takes a lot of damage, the main characters must shield them as much as possible, fighting while protecting the heroine.
    • Fifteen grand and magnificent songs rock the world! – Many mysterious yet grand melodies with impressive orchestrations and multiple choruses enliven the story to the utmost. Five princesses of song make up the group that brighten this title with their voices, including Akiko Shikata renown in the Tsuchiya Akira Project, the debut of Haruka Shimotsuki, and the highly anticipated new style of Yoshino Nanjo.

The Bond Strengthening Ritual “Purification Ceremony”
    • Purification Ceremony Outfit – In the sacred purification ritual, it’s necessary to appear wearing the outfit made for this purpose. Wearing this outfit makes it easier to harvest crystals.
    • Harvesting Crystals – Crystals are harvested through five parts of the body: head, arms, legs, chest, and abdomen. These are the parts of the body that conversations pile up, and also the spots where mutual relationships are deepened and the parts where contact is first made.
    • Talk Matter and Conversations – As the game progresses, you obtain conversation seeds called “Talk Matter.” At the purification ceremony point, conversations occur based on each Talk Matter, deepening the relation between characters.
    • Talk Matter Level – Even if you obtain higher level Talk Matter, you can’t use them if your relationship isn’t deep enough. You can level it up by using lower level Talk Matter enough times. When you level up Talk Matter you have a deeper understanding of your comrades.

    Song Magic
    • Bridal Launch - Features a romantic figure wearing a bridal costume. By some method concocted by what seems to be unimaginable happiness, the enemies are kicked about.
    • Heart of Light - Song magic with parts like a vacuum tube. It has a lost technology-like ambiance. There is something like sharp fingernails, an aggressiveness lurking behind the prettiness.

    Characters
    • Saari (CV: Yumi Shimura) – A specialist mechanic of the elite organization Plasma protecting Felion, her real name is Saari Plank. Since childhood, she possessed the exceptional ability to hold information, and once she reached the age of discretion, worked as a top-ranked hacker. Even after becoming part of Plasma, she exhibited outstanding skills in weapon science and simple medicine creation, as well as software programming. Though she is young, she alone bears the technical side of the organization. She is currently working on a top secret mission in Quantav.
    • Prim (CV: Sayuri Hara) – With the human vocal chords required to make song magic, she is a “human model” possessing the Genome’s ability to invoke song magic. She is the only “human model” with this ability. It is especially rare because the Genome are an extinct species. She is an existence that is rarely able to be seen.
    • Jel (CV: Meiko Kawasaki) – Jelilium Limonite. She is a young woman working for the archbishop of the Genomirai Order in the decommissioned city Quantav. An advocate of coexistence between Shal and humans, when believers are gathered in thanks, their place of discipline and trial is bestowed. She believes that a peaceful world can be created under the Shal who have a greater existence than humans, having a great influence over the ideals of the Genomirai Order.
    • Tentouki (CV: ???) – The empress in command of Felion, the town where people gather. She always has heavy, thick linkage attached to her body, and she never shows that form to her people. Tentouki is thought to be female since she has the title “Heaven Governing Princess”, but knowledge of her gender and age is limited strictly to the humans in Plasma.

Maybe. The Ar Tonelico games didn't do too bad over here, there's a slim chance that someone like NISA could pick it up since the install base on the PS3 is much, much larger than the install base on the Vita (thus the original not being released).

I liked the Ar Tonelico games, and i'd probably get this one too, even if just for the music.

This looks better than the garbage that was Ar Tonelico 3, and the combat system sounds a lot more like 2's.

And this is why Ar Nosurge is not in the west.

    yeeel tim..
    Was i ga..

    Long time..
    I'm sick of waiting.

Well hymmnos isn't present in this game anyway, but an entirely new type of language. Hymmnos, the Cosmospheres, and the music were the only reasons I loved the AT series.

But if this were released, of course I'd be all over it.

Ideas that weren't implemented due to concerns for the safety of the Dev's
Gust recently held an event where they talked about Ciel noSurge’s upcoming final chapter. Additionally, Famitsu reports that Gust shared some of the ideas that director Akira Tsuchiya had for their other game, Ar noSurge, but never made the cut.

According to the report, Tsuchiya had various off-the-wall ideas during the planning stage of the game. One of them involved “an enemy that could never be defeated,” unless you followed a specific rule.

One of the wackier ones was about “an enemy in the game’s world who is aware of our (the player’s) presence” and attacks players by deleting their save data.

While they had various similar ideas, they felt that some of them would have caused a riot amongst the fans, and decided to omit it out of concern. It makes you wonder what kind of game Ar noSurge would have been like, had they kept all their original ideas!

NA (TBA) & EU (Sept 26th) Release Confirmed
    http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/...ain-visual.jpg
Tecmo Koei Europe announced today the upcoming release of Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star, which will be available from retailers across Europe on the 26th September 2014 for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.

Ar nosurge is a Fantasy, Sci-fi, ‘7 Dimension’ RPG, that takes place in a world where music and song can create magic. It tells the compelling story of a civilisation that lost their planet and has been roaming the edge of space for 2000 years in search of a new home.

The player follows two sets of characters: Delta and Casty, whose goal is to protect humanity and save the world, and Ion & Earthes, who are trying to find Ion a way home to Earth. The player can interchange between both pairs and soon discover a way to combine their storylines and strengths to eventually solve the mystery that shrouds their ongoing struggle.

Much like most titles developed by Gust, this is an intricately deep turn-based RPG and it includes a detailed synthesis system for players to create their own items. Additionally, Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star has a unique character development system that focuses more on the bonds/ relationships between the main characters than their success in missions and battles, as the player’s party grows stronger if the characters have a closer relationship.

Additionally, when in battle, character pairs fight together. One is always the first line of defence, attacking enemies in melee with knives and swords while protecting the other, who is weaving a song to fend off enemies. The longer the song lasts the more damage it creates- not only to enemies visible on screen, but to ones that are in line to attack.

Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star is developed by GUST and published by Tecmo Koei Europe.

Played a bit of it the other night.

Battle system similar to AT2's, somewhat.

So in the hour or so I played , this is already better than the steaming pile of shit that was AT3.
