Azure Stiker Gunvolt, from creator of Mega Man

Looks pretty cool. Has that Mega Man feels. I'll buy it.

I loved the Mega Man Zero games, and this looks pretty fun. Might have to check this out.

Coming to NA & JP this Summer, EU TBD
Azure Striker Gunvolt, the upcoming 2D action game from Inti Creates and Comcept, will be released in both North America and Japan this Summer, Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu has confirmed to Siliconera.

Gunvolt is being considered for release in Europe as well, Aizu shared with Siliconera. However, if it is released in Europe, due to the need to localize the game into multiple languages, a European release will come later than Japan and North America.

So is Mega Man going to go through the same process as Strider went through over the years where random handfuls of team members try to rekindle their desire to remake a memorable franchise across multiple platforms?
    Spoiler: show
As long as what's left of USA Gold doesn't get involved, I'm okay with it.

Although it, like Azure, isn't Mega Man in name, Inti Creates is also working on "Mighty No. 9," and besides that, they have been responsible for essentially all things Mega Man for a while now.

NA site is "Up" (it's just getting hammered, so it takes a long time to load)
    http://assets.vg247.com/current//201...er_gunvolt.jpg
A newly-launched English-language website has a few bits and pieces about the game’s backstory and characters along with some screenshots and assets, but the two most interesting bits are the English-language logo and the comment “ESRB rating pending”, suggesting localisation is on the cards.

That's what I meant. When Strider faded off, there were so many clones made up by whatever available members from the original team at the time: Cannon Dancer, Run Saber, Moon Diver, a few other minor ones I can't think of off the top of my head. The name would be different every time, but the core gameplay always stayed roughly the same.

Age 10-14 year old's are the reason why Gunvolt's design was changed
Azure Striker Gunvolt, an upcoming 2D action game for the Nintendo 3DS, is influenced in part by a number of shounen manga and anime, which should make western fans of that genre feel righ at home. Nevertheless, developer Inti Creates have made a couple of slight changes to the game for its U.S. release this Summer.

Siliconera readers brought to our attention that Inti Creates have slightly altered the design of the Gunvolt character himself, doing away with his bare midriff and ponytail for the game’s U.S. release. You can see the difference in the two designs above. It isn’t a big change, but it was noticeable enough for people to pick up on it.

I asked Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu just why the change had been made, and Aizu explained:

During the development of Gunvolt, we researched what kind of design would appeal to boys between the ages of 10 and 14—who we assume will be the game’s main purchasers—in North America.

As a result, we changed Gunvolt’s design, because braided hair and a bare midriff were unpopular among them. However, these changes are not final. We will continue to do research into the matter.

Anyone else getting a Sonic meets Metal Slug feel for the gameplay?

I really hope they don't change it, that design is amazing.

lol that's awesome. The cover art or w/e on the English site didn't edit it so maybe it won't be changed? Also, seems like the ponytail is back but the midriff is still out.

Wow, that character is all sorts of western taboo. Can't wait to see it get butchered.
