star Matt Ryan addressed the smoking controversy:

For me, he's a smoker. John Constantine is a smoker. There's no question about it. I think in the original description of the character, it's the third thing that's mentioned. So yeah, he's a smoker. He has to be a smoker, without question. We can't make him not a smoker. It's just that we're not going to dwell on it too much. There's only so much we can show but yeah, we'll have him putting out cigarettes, doing a lot of other stuff like that. It's still an essential part of the character. It's got to be in there. For me, it's got to be in there.

i haven't watched it to compare yet but I was under the impression there were some changes given that Lucy Griffiths isn't going to be a big role after all or whatever.

I thought it was meh at best. Wanted more of a conman Constantine that outwits the demons not exorcist that waits for them to stumble into a bear trap like a dumbass

Man, this was rough. So disjointed, there's no flow to the show at all. Constantine seems like an interesting character, but this needs some major work.

I think the big thing is that Matt Ryan seems like a really good choice for Constantine. Hopefully the rest can fall into place, but having Chas and Zed (she wasn't in the pilot) around on the show should at least provide them good material to pull from since they're big characters in the Hellblazer comic.

Surprised of the ending. Dude who plays John is great. Rest of the cast seems okay. Pope is now an angel? Haha. Story went straight into it, so hopefully next few episodes are more about cons at the demons. Overall will watch more episodes.
