    Leviathan Extreme

Overly complex diagram of dive patterns (not mine)
    Spoiler: show

    -----

    tl;dr-ish Section

Leviathan will start on the WEST side after "phase 0", and will swap Head/Tail will swap West/East position on every Body Slam thereafter.

Typically WAR will MT head, PLD will OT tail. Some groups have each tank grab 1 add in the parts that spawn 2 at once, some have OT grab both (and the single add). It varies.

    Limit Break strategies:
    1) Meteor (Caster LB3) in the center of the arena will hit all 4 Gyre Spumes and take them down to near-dead. Most common.
    2) Starstorm (Caster LB2) on the 2 Leviathan-side Spumes.
    3) Meteor on head + tail + fear add in "phase 3". Meteor that hits head+tail will do more damage than Final Heaven (melee LB3)

    Adds
    Before first Tidal Wave:
First melee adds spawn on the north side of the stage almost immediately after first body slam.
First mage add will spawn on the head's side.

    After first Tidal Wave
Melee adds spawn on the south side of the stage, about 20-30 (confirm?) seconds after Leviathan returns to the platform.

    After second Tidal Wave
Mage add spawns on the tail's side. Will likely slide into tail's corner.

    -----

    The Field / "Jumps" / Head/Tail overview:

West side of the battlefield is column A, east side is column B. North, Mid, South rows.

When Leviathan splits into head and tail, they will be on the west and east sides of the north "row" or bottom "row" in some orientation. Like Hard, Head counterattacks arrows and Tail counters magic. Both share the same HP pool. Can't get rear attacks on head. Like Turn 4, using Bane on adds near the tail is a decent way to take only minimal damage from counterattacks.

Head does magic damage only. Do not use cross-class Virus on it. Do not bother putting Eye for an Eye on main tank for just the head.
    Tail does physical damage only.

    Head:
Attack: Levi's excuse for being able to attack from everywhere. Can't be parried or blocked (and doesn't trigger Eye for an Eye procs) and this goes for pretty much every head move as far as I know. Sorry PLDs.

Dread Tide: This originates on MT (full damage, about 4k without mitigation on a PLD), then cascades in a line behind them (relative to Leviathan). So head tank can try to tank at a side or corner angle.

Aqua Breath, a radial around itself that does pretty negligible damage unless MT got hit by Spinning Dive. It's a little wider than its animation but as a healer I also find it pretty inconsequential.

Tidal Roar: Basically like Titan's stomps. Does 1 during first phase, does 2 during second phase (including almost immediately after the first Body Slam where the railings are off).

Waterspout: Like Garuda EX's Friction, targets both healers with a moderate (~800-1k depending on mitigation) AoE. Don't have healers stack on each other.

Grand Fall: Performs this at the same time he jumps for Spinning Dive. Basically Weight of the Land / Eruption. Applies Heavy and you probably won't survive more than 2 if topped off. In later phases he can spawn 3 staggered Grand Falls on a few people.

Quote Originally Posted by Seravi Edalborez View Post

    Tail:
Scale Darts: Moderate damage on OT. Not too threatening on its own to them.

Tail Whip: It's a cleave. Don't get hit if you're a squishy. It has a fixed position.

Briny Veil: Puts a debuff on OT called Briny Mirror (looks like bubbles on a red background). Any direct healing action (including being one of the targets of AoE healing) applied to Mirror'd target applies a debuff called Briny Veil to the healer which reduces action range. This doesn't lower the radius on AoE heals. Briny Veil has a duration of 40 seconds that refreshes (and intensifies the range down) as it stacks. While you can "healer swap" to mitigate its effect on your healers, the following do not apply stacks:
    • Scholar pet in general
    • Stoneskin
    • Regen
    • Any other mitigation (Eye, Sacred Soil)

    Dives:
Spinning Dive: (the deck swipe jump) will come from any** of the possible arrow'd directions (including where head/tail can be), inflicts around 3k, knockback, and applies a stackable water defense down for a while (which will make subsequent everything in this fight hurt more).

    **See first spoilered image
    • W<->E North Row
    • W <-> E Mid Row
    • W <-> E South Row
    • Column A
    • Column B

In the very beginning he only does columns, but starting from like 2nd or 3rd set of dives he can do mid across, then north/south across later.

Always look for the very first dive to come from the side he was already on (as far as North or South).
The first Body Slam is random, but every time he does it thereafter his head and tail will always swap West/East positions. So if head was at NW, the spout signaling Body Slam will always come from NE or SE.

Most sets of dives are, Dive, Dive, Body Slam. Prior to Tidal Wave (Astral Flow thing), he will do Dive, Tidal Wave, Slam. He also does that short version (Dive, Slam) during Wave Spumes in phase 2. For the dive before Tidal Wave, it can only come through the columns (blocking off half of the elemental converter).

Body Slam can ONLY occur on the north row or south row. This tips the boat in that direction. For first half of the fight you only really need to dodge the flop itself. After first Tidal Wave, the railings break off and you can fall off Titan style. Dead and raising bodies are also moved around by this, so Raises need to be quick and the dead person needs to accept AFTER their body begins sliding. You need to be at about the end of the circle on the opposite side (or, 3/4ths away from Leviathan's side) to avoid being knocked off, roughly.

Quote Originally Posted by Seravi Edalborez View Post
This is where that convoluted spoilered pic in OP helps. If head is NW and tail is NE, dives will come from any of...

    • West column (N)
    • East Column (N)
    • North Row (E)
    • Middle Row (E)

So you angle your camera to NE corner to see all possibles. Then the available positions swap to...

    • West column (S)
    • East Column (S)
    • Middle Row (W)
    • South Row (W)

    and focus camera SW.

Then since head was on NW, it has to swap to east side so the Body Slam position can only be NE or SE. So angle camera east.

    Phase 0: Engage

Levi starts at the north end of the battlefield, there's a switch (box) on the opposite side. Like Garuda EX, he has a short period in the beginning where you just beat on him and nothing special happens.

When he "jumps" he will do 1 Slam and split into head/tail. MT continues to take head, OT takes tail.

    Phase 1

2 melee adds will spawn on the north end, regardless of what end Leviathan split to. Not too noteworthy, they can inflict Paralyze on people sometimes. If they live for too long they make a DoT puddle that does ~1k/tick and should be Esuna/Leeches'd. But your DPS should be high enough to never see this.

From here on, dives will be accompanied by "Grand Fall". More will come in each set as the fight progresses, sometimes being double or triple spawns.

2nd add "set" (80%?) is a mage type that has the following:
Dreadwash - Hits multiple people with Hysteria (makes them run around uncontrollably)
Dreadstorm - Makes a hysteria "puddle". If you fall into the field from Slam tilting the ship, it gets applied to you. If you run back into it while hysteria'd, it will be reapplied.

The prevailing strategy in pickup groups is to have an OT PLD stunlock him with Shield Bash from 75% until (hopefully) death.

    ----

At ~70%, 4 Gyre Spumes (yellow bubbles) spawn in the 4 corners. Burn these as fast as possible. These suck out the "elemental conversion" meter shown on the duty list, which you need to survive Tidal Wave. It refreshes over time (3/tic) but you need about 30 power to be able to survive. Gyre Spumes will AoE suicide on death for ~800.

After spumes pop, Leviathan will typically do 1 set of dives, return (device can be activated), dive (last chance to activate the device if it's not powered enough yet), Tidal Wave (breaks guard railings), Slam and this signals phase 2.

    Phase 2:
Basically more of the same, just with the added caveat that knockback typically = death.

About 30? seconds after this phase begins, 2 more of the melee adds spawn from south side.

From here on, Tidal Roar (stomp) is done twice at a time.

Some time after the next Gyre Spumes (specifically, during the Tidal Roar x2 after they pop, ~15 seconds after Gyres?), Wave Spumes (blue bubbles) will pop and run to the center. They draw a tether to whoever that have hate on and apply Bleeding persistant DoT while doing this (non-stacking). After a decent amount of time they explode, dealing ~1k apiece at point blank, more like 200-300 if far enough away. 2 strategies can be done for this:

    1) Have a PLD grab them all and use Hallowed Ground. Timing help: 1 GCD on tail after Leviathan returns to platform, then pop HG.

    2) Leave them in the middle and just hang at the corners when they explode after Leviathan returns to the platform. This requires that you not use AoE like Requiem or you risk aggroing the Spumes as they run to the center. This method is kind of risky/unreliable so it's rare to see in pickups.

Important thing: After Wave Spumes pop, the next set of dives will just be ONE dive, then Body Slam.

One final note about the elemental converter: When it says it's ready, expect Leviathan to jump VERY soon (under 5 seconds) and try to dodge/be towards the switch. Remember, 1 dive, Tidal Wave (switch needs to already be on), Body Slam.

    "Phase 3" (Enrage phase):

After 2nd Tidal Wave, last fear add will spawn on the tail side. Leviathan will do 2 rounds of double Tidal Roar, do some dives, then return. When he returns he will spam double roar every ~15 seconds. On the 3rd set or so he will spawn 2 melee adds and do Tidal Wave without the elemental converter available. This is the hard enrage. You need to kill him before this happens. Don't even bother healing the 2nd set of double roars if it has to go that far, you will die either way if Levi doesn't.

e: Thanks Yugl for name of ship-tilting move, and various other moves.

That first chart really over complicates things. Also Dreadstorm from the mage sahagin is not silenceable; it's easier to stun lock with a PLD and zerg it down.

Just from a little bit of time I spent dicking around, the head casts Dread Tide shortly after the adds spawn, then Aqua Breath pretty close after it. The next Dread Tide is probably timed, but for our group setup it tended to occur right around the time the adds died. Maybe 15-20 second before it goes into the next dive/slam rotation.

Mirror isn't guaranteed. Went four wins without seeing one. Our WHM sometimes gets hate on tethered spheres but, otherwise, you can just avoid the center and they won't tether to anyone it seems.

The "Bellyflop" move is named Body slam.

on the phase with the single add, you can stunlock it starting around 75% and it will never be able to cast the hysteria aoe move. we usually just have a PLD OT run over and drag it to a corner in case it does go off.

I've made a guide myself over at:

    http://www.ffxivinfo.com/guides/leviathan-extreme.php

It's based on what I've gathered so far from fighting it lots tonight. Will probably update/improve it going forward but I think it's helpful in its current state.

For what it's worth, Fluid Aura works on sahagin as a backup interupt. Unfortunately SE thought that'd be too clever for dispersing of mobs when the rails are down though and prevented them from going overboard.

Fee company members and some pick up group people did Leviathan and after some time, we finally cleared it.

    Spoiler: show

    Things I noticed:

One of the attacks only targets the healers. Don't stand near them, don't have 2 healers standing on each other.

Adds are just a zerg, stun lock them and blow them away. After the railings are gone, if you get Hysteria, raid wipe. If you leave the duo up long enough, Dropsy or w/e is about 1.4k per tick. DPS should be high enough to avoid any add problems.

Warrior is the better tank by far for the head, it can IB for every third attack, which hits for roughly 4-5k, forgot the name of the move exactly, and PLD handles mirror much better with just a fairy placed nearby. I never healed our OT directly, just let my fairy handle it and back it up with a Lustrate or something if need be. Worth noting that healing someone with mirror on will cut your range every time, up to a maximum at 16 stacks which is incapacitation effectively.

Still has an enrage, it's about 12 or 13 minutes.

Need about 30 on the bar for the aether barrier to mitigate enough damage, means Spumes need to be quick.

Really an easy fight, most of it is the avoiding him flying around the arena, and a dps check on the adds. Worth noting that the blue bubbles aren't really much to worry about, but they do explode and if you aren't prepared for them, can cause a lot of panic during the last parts of the fight. We just had our PLD pick them up and HG, dodge and heal up afterward, at which point they were usually still a few seconds from exploding.

On the second set of Spumes, LB2 Starstorm the tanks 2 Spumes, or if LB3 is up because you're being bad, you can hit all 4 with Meteor. With LB2 we sent all DPS to the ones opposite of the ones we used it on. Also during this phase he only does one dive across the arena before the slam, so much less to worry about.

Mirror drop rate isn't very good lol, 0/9.

Shameless vidya, might help though for some that like their visuals. http://youtu.be/weQm57OruZs

Caster sahagin is 80% and spumes is 70% iirc

Foe req will aggro wave spumes so don't have that up when they spawn. Strat is to completely ignore them and not ever aggro them, then spread out to edges ala Geocrush to take less damage.

Dps can push phases, which makes it far easier since you have less to dodge

As a healer, I seem to always aggro these. I kind of hang out near the middle most of the fight. I know we sometimes have been doing Requiem in that part, but sometimes I don't think it's up and they still just go wild. Just don't be in the circle area?

We have our MT PLD grab them all and pop HG for it. Nowhere else in the fight where HG seems applicable.

This guy also seems to have an accuraccy requirement. My WHM was occassionally missing Aero1/2's while helping to push that first phase. It's probably stupid low, but it's there.

It's not stupidly low, it's similar to T4 or T5. If you're attacking the tail it's not bad, but ACT reports misses on the head at 470.

Made some additions/edits to OP, have a few wins now.

During Body Slam, while sliding across the deck, it's a good chance for casters to throw out instant casts of any sort. As SCH I will sometimes Cleric, Bio, Aero, cleric off (done sliding). WHM can regen, SMN can Bio, etc.

We're one shotting this now pretty consistently.

You can do some crazy phase skips if you keep your SCH in Cleric Stance the entire time and have generally high DPS. You can also DoT both the head and the tail on pretty much anyone as long as heals are on the ball.
