Eight years for rape is, in my opinion, far too low - let's not even talk about the probation or whatever it is he got. Rape is a terrible, medieval crime and it should be punished just as harshly as any other violent crime.
Chances that judge got some $$$$$$$$ 115%
Continuing on with the chronicles of 'rape and power differentials':
(also, lol@ NY daily news source but my click google search didn't show anything more reputable)
Former Manhattan high school dean pleads guilty to sex with underage student, expected to get 90-day jail sentenceMalik Taylor admitted Tuesday to counts of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from multiple sexual encounters with the same 16-year-old girl at the Business of Sports School in MidtownA former administrator at a Manhattan high school will be sentenced to 90 days in jail after he admitted in court Tuesday to having sex with an underage student inside the school building.
Malik Taylor copped to counts of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from multiple encounters with the same 16-year-old girl.
The 32-year-old ex-administrator at the Business of Sports School in Midtown denied having known the girl’s age or what grade she was in at the time, though he was pressed on the matter in Manhattan Supreme Court, but the distinction is irrelevant to the criminal action itself in the eyes of the law.
Taylor, whose job title was “community associate and dean,” is expected to be released at his sentencing because he has already served 90 days in jail. He will be on probation for a decade, and he’ll have to register as a sex offender; the level he will be assigned in the sex offender classification system will be determined at a later date.
Authorities said he enticed students from the Business of Sports School into engaging in trysts in his car, in motels, even in classrooms.
He allegedly had sex with at least four students, not using a condom, though only one of the four was younger than 17.
And he sexually harassed other girls at the school with perverted remarks about their “big a----,” according to officials.
Taylor told one girl he wanted to “f--- the s--- out of” her, and later demanded to know if he could “at least s--- on her b----?” the Daily News previously reported.
At his plea proceeding on Tuesday, Justice Charles Solomon asked how old Taylor thought the girl was. He told Solomon he didn’t have a clue.“I didn’t know her age,” Taylor mumbled, his head hanging low as he slouched at the defense table.
The judge then asked if he knew what her grade level was.
“No, I didn’t know what grade she was in,” Taylor said.
Prosecutors, however, said Taylor previously told investigators that he did in fact know the girl’s grade.
Taylor’s lawyer said his client is sorry for what he did.
“My client is deeply regretful and glad to put this whole thing behind him,” lawyer Nathan DeCorpo said after the plea agreement was reached.
Taylor will be formally sentenced on April 15. The Department of Education has terminated his employment.
I don't really get these 'degrees' of rape thing I keep seeing in the US.
Also,Edit: Link added. Also forgot to mention that hes black and not rich....I wonder how that will influence discussion on how he (is probably/might be/is) innocent.Taylor told one girl he wanted to “f--- the s--- out of” her, and later demanded to know if he could “at least s--- on her b----?”

Well obviously we need to classify different degrees to let us know just HOW MUCH the victim was asking for it.I don't really get these 'degrees' of rape thing I keep seeing in the US.
What doesn't make sense about the degrees? Whether weapons are used, use of physical violence, mental states, age, sex act performed - all these things matter. Saying that holding a knife to a chick's throat while you sodomize her should be punished the same as a 15 year old boy "consentually" fingerbanging a 15 year old girl is ridiculous.
The number of varying degrees. Again I see a blatant 15-yd facemask and a lesser version of sexual assault, depending on behavior / intent / intoxication / actions. I do not see a 4th-degree with no minimum sentence.
dont forget statutory rape!

Varies by state etc etc
He was some sports dean, so they probably practiced together and discussed all changing their minds while running laps one day.
Thanks for the clarification Senji, that was helpful and I can respect those distinctions legally.
I suppose I was trying to get at this 'informal' discussion of rape in media/ forums etc where its like 'Oh it was third degree rape' as if it was like 'Oh it was a third degree burn'. What I'm used to hearing in Europe media/discourse is: "Oh it was rape." and then when the sentence is discussed then yeah, 'he was sentenced to X time by judge Y on Z crime'.
Personally that makes more sense, you are discussing the crime in its class for what it is: rape, and then you specify only where appropriate. Rather than having the (generally uninformed) reader/listener (especially as these degrees have very specific legal definitions) making relational judgments on the crime: Joe-Blow: "Oh it was only third degree rape?".
I'll admit I'm probably looking too much into it as its not something I would have ran into every day both in Europe or here in the US. My opinion is certainly not crystalised and it would be interesting to hear what ye think.
Well, to be fair he wasn't putting his dick in his 3 year old daughter.
Wow who rapes babies, what a disgusting fucker.
This fucking thread is mind boggling
