PC turning off seconds after turning it on.

I'm having an issue with my sons pc and hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

We just got done with a cross country move and after unpacking my sons PC it is having issues. When powering on, the lights and fans start up for a brief 2-3 seconds then it shuts off. Once this happens it wont come back on unless I disconnect the power cord from the wall and wait a few minutes. After that it repeats the same issue.

During the move it was packed very securely and never fell or took any kind of hit. I am hoping its the psu that has just went out and needs to be replaced. I have tried switching power cords and outlets and unplugging and plugging back in everything from the psu. Everything inside looks like it is connected securely and no visible damage.

it doesnt come on long enough to get to the start up screen so no way to do any kind of diagnostics. Help me BG tech gods!

Sounds like the PSU. Mine had the same symptoms and turned out to be the PSU. Only thing to check is if it has a voltage switch make sure that it's set correctly. Some PSU don't have the switch anymore so don't be surprised if it's not there.

Ok, if it has one is it just going to be somewhere on the outside of the psu case?

googled "PSU voltage switch", and pretty much every image was pointing out where it was.

Also make sure the power cord from the PSU to the motherboard is plugged in correctly. The PSU has a feedback circuit built into it to know that it is plugged into the motherboard, it won't stay on unless that is working properly (if the plug came loose during the move).

I've seen the 110/220 switch thing before too, that's a good thought.

So far tried everything suggested as well as trying another PSU and got the same results starting to wonder if its MB related.

When the fans come on briefly, does that include the cpu fan?

Try unplug from wall, hold power button down for forty seconds, remove battery, literally reseat everything (besides cpu) including mb to case.

I am pretty sure it was coming on as well I will double check that when I get home tonight and try resetting everything.
