Eh, you don't miss a whole lot from BL1. If you had to pick one, go with BL2 it's an improvement in pretty much everything. Except maybe the way the story is presented depending on your views. In terms of the main story, BL1 was mostly about you trying to find treasure on a lawless planet with bandits/etc. and some humor here and there while BL2 pretty much threw humor in damn near everything. Not saying the latter is bad, but I know some people got tired of the jokes and whatnot.

Though from the gameplay I've seen so far, the Pre-Sequel seems to focus more on BL2 than anything in BL1.

For main story and sidequests, I'd say around ~45 hours for BL2

that sounds about right for bl1 too. more driving but less content so i think it balances out to about the same. If you can get a good deal on 1 and are interested in playing it, it's worth the time, but otherwise it's definitely safe to just skip to 2. For 1, I highly recommend Brick. He's pretty OP. For 2, anyone but Zero.

And with BL1, didn't you have to do a lot of backtracking and report pretty much every mission back to who/whatever gave you it? I don't remember much about questing in BL1 other than it wasn't that refined. That and corrosive weapons were the best weapons for pretty much any situation.

Questing in both is pretty long-winded and can be awful. I'd just skip anything that wasn't necessary in BL1 and 2 (which is a lot) and go straight for the ending. The story stuff is entertaining and shit, so you'll want to experience that in both games.

Personally I liked the atmosphere/story/characters of 1 with the gameplay and flow of 2. Hopefully presequel strikes a better balance.

BL1 does introduce you to 90% of the cast you will still interact with in BL2, so having that history made BL2 very enjoyable. Also, you can just play the base BL1 game and not worry about the dlc add-ons

I think I'm going to play the sheriff when I get the game. Seems pretty deadly and becomes even more deadly when she gets hurt.

nisha does look pretty good. but after going through bl2 several times, i'm thinking Wilhelm. He strikes me as a combination of Axton and Gaige, two of the strongest classes.

Axton was strong? Most people seem to think Salvador and Krieg are the best characters.

Gaige too. Salvador, Gaige, and Krieg were easily the best characters for UVHM.

well he's not Zero so that makes him at least mid-tier. i do really well with him. better than i do with Krieg, actually. Krieg is amazing but i just don't like the melee part, which is where he's strongest.

once you get twin dual slag rocket turrets axton gets a lot stronger.
