    Sunset Overdrive (PC/XB1)

    http://gearnuke.com/sunset-overdrive...-e3-teaser-mp/
Sunset Overdrive is an Xbox One exclusive from Insomniac Games, the creators of the popular Ratchet and Clank and Resistance series on PlayStation. It was a surprise announcement at last year’s E3 and it seems like it is finally going to be revealed soon, before E3.

James Stevenson, Community Lead at Insomniac Games, has confirmed that Sunset Overdrive was always going to be revealed before E3, and that they plan to reveal it to the world soon.

Always was gonna get shown pre-E3. We just didn’t know exactly when so it’s been fluid.

We have tons of good stuff for E3 too though

He also confirmed the existence of a single player campaign and explained that the E3 teaser focused on the multiplayer portion of the game, adding that they never said “No” to there being co-op in the game, which might mean that it will have co-op.

    Campaign/story is single-player.

There is multiplayer as well, as you saw in the E3 teaser….

James Stevenson also hyped the game with the comment: “If there is one word this game IS NOT, that word would be ‘forgettable’.”

Sunset Overdrive has yet to receive a proper release date or gameplay reveal but from the comments made by Community Lead, it might be happening soon.

Looked like Bioshock Infinite at first glance lol

The trailer they showed for the initial reveal looked like it had a lot of character, which is more than can be said of some games.

    Overstrike did too though.

    New website
    and twitter account up

    Say hello to Fizzie

    Some info from the site
    http://abload.de/img/capture3kjvg.png
Fizzco was founded in 2007 by Rupert F. Kane, the visionary behind several revolutionary products such as Easy-Peasy shelf meats and MuffinTopps cereal. Fizzco's vision is simple: craft the best damn beverages on Earth. Their premier product, UNTZ, achieved that. It's the planet's most popular drink with over 20-billion cans consumed a day. But, never one to settle, Fizzco's now prepping to revolutionize the liquid industry once more with its xtremophile-infused OverCharge Delirium XT.

Fizzco cares about your poor self-esteem. So, if you're feeling a little unattractive, be sure to stop by SexBurger, where every meal comes with a free side of sex appeal. Agua Mofeta Brewery
    http://d3amfwbjq1ufzd.cloudfront.net...d/brewery1.jpg
Aqua Mofeta is Sunset City's premier brewery. It prides itself on its many rare and virtually unheard of lagers. When you stop by, be sure to try customer favorites “October Sunset Brisk Breeze Autumn Crop Duster Wheat” and “My Ex-Girlfriend Amber.” Watch as the Friday night rush turns into the Saturday morning stumble!

    Cafe FizzCo
    http://d3amfwbjq1ufzd.cloudfront.net...afe_fizzco.jpg
When Fizzco decimated the coffee industry with its premier product UNTZ, they knew they had to establish their own roadside café chain in order to satisfy the world's craving for artisan-crafted, premium-priced caffeinated beverages. Be sure to visit the store that started it all! It's the perfect place to almost start that screenplay!

Sasquatch 'n Friends Family Fun Center
    http://d3amfwbjq1ufzd.cloudfront.net...sasquatch1.jpg
Locally owned and operated, Sasquatch & Friends has become a Friday night hotspot for people who love okay pizza and overly-fogged laser tag. The next issue of Edge includes an extensive feature on Sunset Overdrive, and Reddit user Ninja-Moomin managed to get an early copy, posting a few pictures of the article, from which we can extrapolate a lot of new details about the game.

Here’s a summary for your perusal:

According to Insomniac they’ve finally begun to understand what they love the most, and that reflects in the tone of the game.
Sunset Overdrive mixes platforming and shooting, and places equal weight on both skills
Insomniac has never made guns this powerful. You can take out five enemies with one shot.
The guns in the game play completely different from each other.
You’ll have to accumulate “style” before you fight some of the harder bosses. Some bosses won’t even notice you’re shooting at them if you’re at style level one or two.
Players are rewarded for playing fast and hard and not stopping. If you stop your style meter drops: “getting in there, mixing it up and mantaining that velocity is your aim.”
The island’s boss is a Fizzco balloon named Fizzle. The fight is “On rails,” but not in the way we usually think. The rails are coils wrapped around the tower you can grind on. Fizzle’s weak spots are spring-loaded drums above the city’s rooftops, and you’ll have to leap back and forth between them and the rails while avoiding fire and without ever stopping.
The player can ride the city’s telephone cables from above or below, changing with a tap of X to avoid low bridges or enemy fire.
Little Tokyo’s Japanese-inspired architecture involves lots of short wall runs and oddly angled buildings.
The world transforms at night, and so does the way the game plays. Sunset Overdrive promises to offer new ways to to deal with the night both alone and with friends.
In the last generation players have been trained to seek cover and wait combat out. Sunset Overdrive asks players “to think differently, use a different toolset and push forward.” Players are rewarded for jumping over the cover and take the initiative.
Attack is the new defense and wall running is the new cover.
Insomniac wants to create a different experience from the usual shooter that plays like Call of Duty.
Microsoft told Insomniac “We want Insomniac to be Insomniac” and allowed the developer to own the intellectual property, which is very important for the developer.
Insomniac wants to bring elements from games like Jet Set Radio and Tony Hawk to a more modern experience, adding depth, story and a campaign with a lot of unique ideas.
They’re trying to make a really great arcade game that is really fun to play regardless of how long you play.
For Insomniac the next generation is about “pop.” They want to see more “popping off the screen:” more colors, more effects, more things to see in the city.
Xbox One owners will be involved with the decisions that will shape the game post-release.
While you play you’ll see big screens broadcasting “Sunset TV,” an in-game TV channel discussing the current and future state of the game and offering players a way to vote on how it’ll change and evolve.
Insomniac feels that the first year or two of a new generation are when most risks are taken.
The developer is looking at Sunset Overdrive as the first of a series and want to build it into something bigger, “a real franchise.”
Everything was born from a lunch conversation a few years ago. It was never meant to be a real game at that time, but in the end they made it.

The game definitely sounds and look extremely interesting, and Insomniac seems to really want to surprise and amaze us this time around.

Main character is fully voiced, both male and female. Nameless though, as it's you!

Full customized, you can use any clothing item on any character - regardless of male/female or body type.

    http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/05/...amps-and-more/
With today’s reveal of the upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive, Community and Marketing Lead James Stevenson has been all over NeoGAF posting all kinds of details about the game.

Here’s a summary of the most relevant points he made:

There’s no set “main character.” You can customize gender, body types, clothing, and accessories. All clothing in the game works regardless of gender.
Both the male and female versions of the character are fully voiced.
There are cutscenes and the player character has a personality and character growth. He/She doesn’t have a name, though.
The real UI won’t be shown until E3. The one the press saw isn’t final.
The game looks slower than it actually plays: “when you’re sitting back and taking it all in, it may seem slower, but when you’re playing, recognizing where enemies are, where you are traversing too, thinking about which enemies are the biggest threat and which weapon you should be using, all while trying to aim, fire, and line up your next movement, the speed feels pretty good.”
Sunset TV episodes will be released once a week, and they’re pretty short (2-4 minute).
Enemies can jump and climb, and get on the power lines the players grind.
There’s lots of variation in enemy types: “there are other ones that are problems like the blowers shooting puss at you, and the herker throwing OD at you and charging.”
The enemy we saw is “fodder.” Lots more to come.
The game is a full blown single player game, “Insomniac style.” The single player mode is not just an addition to the multiplayer.
The team has already done a lot of polish on the game’s animations since the build shown in the latest trailer, that you can check out at the bottom of the post.
The trail we saw in the trailer is the most basic “vanity amp” for a white trail. There are other options you can select with different colors and effect. They only activate at certain style levels.

Stevenson also discussed the studio’s relationship with Microsoft, explaining why Insomniac decided to partner with the house of Xbox and go exclusive on their new console.

We had to partner with the right group that believed in us and the vision of the game, wanted to see that vision came to life, and was ok with us retaining the rights to our creation.

In all of those regards, Microsoft has been a terrific partner in making Sunset Overdrive reality.

yeah they let Insomniac own it, which is why they went with MS for pub, Sony wanted to own the IP. I imagine given install base that it would be likely to go multi, but MS might moneyhat it

Sunset Overdrive: Xbox One Exclusivity “Wasn’t About Money;” Info on Resolution/FPS Choice and More

After the recent unveiling of Sunset Overdrive, Insomniac has been accused by many to have jumped on the Xbox One ship because of monetary advantages, but the developer took to Twitter to deny those allegations.

Wasn’t about money, was about our controlling and owning the IP, and their belief and desire to execute our vision with us.

Community and Marketing Lead James Stevenson also explained on NeoGAF that IP ownership and retaining control is currently the studio’s “biggest desire.”

Yup, which is our biggest desire these days. Controlling our own worlds and characters, especially after we pour so much into them.

Insomniac also pledged 100% independence, mentioning that they’re still free to work with whomever they like for other projects:

We are still 100% independent. Our deal with Microsoft covers @SunsetOverdrive, but we can work with others, like Sony on Nexus.

That said, we probably shouldn’t expect to see those other projects anytime soon, as it was mentioned that the team is “really focused on Sunset Overdrive right now.”

Interestingly enough, a fan asked if it’d be possible to implement an option to select between 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second and 720p/60 FPS. Insomniac explained why that won’t be possible:

Not really, no. so many systems end up relying on whichever one we choose to really optimize for the one piece of hardware.

They also specified that this goes for “probably all console games, but I guess it could depend. exclusives especially though highly optimize to console.”

Interestingly enough, a similar option does exist in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (even if the frame rate is unlocked and not fixed at 30 or 60 frames per second), but defining it an exclusive would be very debatable.

By the way, if you care for a free Saturday morning smile, check out the GIF below, courtesy of NeoGAF. Apparently it’s making the rounds at Xbox’s offices, according to Aaron Greemberg.

    http://onlysp.com/sunset-overdrive-w...chet-arsenals/
I asked the Twitter account today just how big the arsenal would be for Sunset Overdrive and while the answer wasn’t too in-depth, I did manage to get an idea of just how many weapons will be in the game. According to the Twitter account, the game’s arsenal will be, “as large as the largest Ratchet arsenals.” In addition, each weapon can be slotted with an amp, of which Insomniac says there are a “ton”.

I’m not sure how big the arsenals were in the Ratchet and Clank Future series, but from my experience with the previous games, the arsenals were quite extensive. And the Twitter account only noted projectile weapons, so we’re going to go ahead and assume there’s quite the number of hand to hand weapons as well.

The Twitter account also notes that the footage shown in the trailer is from a build that’s over two months old, so hopefully at E3 we’ll get to see a current build with all that polish in place.

    http://www.insomniacgames.com/sunset...r-style-meter/
Sunset Overdrive is all about dynamic traversal and unconventional weapons. The core design of the game is focused on these elements, and everything we do in the game encourages the player to use traversal, and to especially use it in combat.

We’ve already shown how traversal is one of the core elements of Sunset Overdrive, as you’ve seen from the gameplay previews and our first episode of Sunset TV. Why though? Whether you are bouncing on the roof of a car, grinding down a building rail, or running along a wall, we want the player to keep moving. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to survive in the game, as the hordes of OD will make much quicker work of a stationary player at ground level.

Besides survival, we actively incentivize players to traverse in the game with the Style Meter. Think of this as the main combo mechanic in the game, and one of the ways you know you’re playing well. By traversing, killing enemies, and especially killing enemies while traversing, you’ll build up the style meter. That’s important, as filling each level of the style meter will activate the Amps you have equipped. If you stop traversing or killing enemies, your style meter will decrease, and eventually those amps will deactivate.

What are Amps? We’ll get more into detail on them next week – but at a basic level they are power-ups you can equip to your player and weapons that will only activate if you’re playing with enough style. If you check out the First Look video you can see some of them at play like the Energy Roll and Air Dash. You’ll find recipes and resources to craft amps during the game, and then equip the ones to best suit your playstyle.

It isn’t as simple as pressing X though. There is a skill level to dynamic traversal. Most of the time, you’ll notice the grinds are broken up. You’ll need to jump between them and start grinding again. Or if you want to go around the corner of a building while wall-running, you’ll need to tap the X button at the right moment to successfully pull off the cornering move. If you want to get a super jump off a car or awning, you’ll need to time your press of the A button perfectly. Furthermore, the higher up you scale in Sunset City, the more skillful at traversal you’ll need to be to stay there.

Even then, skillful traversal won’t do it alone. You’ll have to dispose of the mutant OD horde, SCABs and Fizzco Security along the way to max out the style meter. And the enemies won’t just directly attack you while traversing, they’ll also attempt to deny those traversal paths to you by jumping onto your grinds, or taking up a spot on the roof of that car you want to bounce on.

You’ll rely on an arsenal of weapons as large as our biggest ones in the Ratchet & Clank series to help you in clearing your route. Sunset Overdrive includes an Insomniac staple, the weapon wheel, which allows you to slow the game while you pick which weapon to use. To allow you to further customize your play style, each weapon can be equipped with an amp of its own (which will only be active while the style meter is charged up) as well.

By using weapons effectively, and by switching between them, you’ll power the style meter. Do that while traversing, and you’ll fill it up even faster. Getting to amps and even more awesome mayhem.

Effective play in Sunset Overdrive is all about dynamic traversal and weapons. By playing with skill, traversing and switching your weapons, you’ll keep your style meter full and your amps active. Stay tuned next week, as we get into more details on what your reward for playing with style: Amps.
