With money in politics, you have no one who represents you.

George Takei just gave a bump to mayday.us
I'd like to think I had something to do with that.
And the count just jumped by 3 quarters of a million since this morning, with 14 hours to go, to get three quarters of a million more.
This is going to be close.
Holy shit Mayday reached $5 million.
$1.5m in 1 day
if there's some specific corruption involved ok but...
it doesn't seem like loaning (not giving like he repeatedly said) money to foreign companies so they can buy American products is some horrible plot to steal taxpayer dollars
is there some statistical analysis saying how much is theoretically "lost" by giving low rates vs whether or not the money would be spent otherwise and shit that shows how this is such a bad program?
because at first glance it seems a lot to me like a republican ploy to claim they're fighting corporate welfare while also riling shit up with the anything-involving-foreigners-is-bad crew which is really what I would have expected Cenk to jump on
It's crony and a subsidy because it only applies to a handful of corporations and gives an advantage to them over their competitors.
I'm really excited to see where Lessig picks his fights, which we will apparently know on July 15
Curious what volunteering is like? What it takes to make a huge difference in your state? How you can help change American history? Watch this interview!
Every government program that costs money necessarily works this way; it is not an argument against government programs. It is an odd example of selective outrage since the ex-im bank is one of the rare gov programs that actually works without torturing the statistics. Oddly, it would have more support if it lost money on a regular basis, but apparently some people can't stand the fact that it violates what their econ textbook told them in college - what do you mean a govt organization can make profitable business in the absence of private interests?
This is what we're working with? Really?Originally Posted by Veronique De Rugy

well how else you gonna do it? money is speech

One more reason the states need to take control and make this happen. It clearly isn't going to come from the top.
The Senate just rejected a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United
Makes me wonder if the Dems would have truly voted for it if they had enough senators to pass it.
#MayDayin30 video contest:

Kochs' PAC Americans for Prosperity has started to show up to committee hearings on resolutions to get money out of politics at the state level.
Top video for the Mayday video contest. This will probably be shown nationally I'm assuming. Thoughts?
Wolf PAC sends volunteers to campaign for representatives that supported them, and ruin the ones that didn't support them. Tell me again how MayDay is gonna change things?
