Hitsugi no Chaika

Summary: Toru Acura is a 20-year-old retired soldier meandering through life post-war. He encounters Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin, and follows her in hopes of finding some semblance of meaning in his life again. The two are accompanied by Toru's adopted sister Akari, the sole employed member of the group and thereby their source of sustenance.

So I like this. Even with the weird brother (THOUGH NOT REALLY) complex that 1/5 anime have upon release. Animation is sweet, it's bloody and has good action. Could get crazy, might fall flat. Time will tell.

I'm really liking this show. I thought Chaika's speech would get on my nerves after episode 1, but it's really started to grow on me. The brother/sister relationship has its funny moments and isn't cringeworthy like in Mahouka.. Also the animation is pretty top notch. The fight scene in episode 5 was well done. For some reason, this show also reminds me of Scrapped Princess.

I've enjoyed this show a lot so far. MC has a good head on his shoulders and Chaika's antics are great. They speak broken nihongo because the other empire 'speaks another language' so she's not talking in her native language. It's such a cute way of speaking with her voice. I usually don't even need subs with her, lol. Action is good and they don't shy away from letting battles get dark or gory.

Also red chaika was delicious.

Assuming the second season is also an order of 12, that brings it in parity with Scrapped Princess (24 eps total). I'm enjoying the world building and Chaika, despite questionable first impressions, has so far proven to be vastly less irritating than Pacifica.

Episode 7... I found myself laughing quite a lot after they went down into the fog. Those fucking illusions and that chaika, just lol. And then the way chaika was pouting at the end, I absolutely love her speech patterns.

This was a really good show. Probably the most competent main character in a few seasons. Toru is basically Batman but willing to kill people.

Just marathoned this season in time for S2. Pretty good show. Main character is great. Chaika is great. Akari has pretty funny comments here and there too. Fucking loved Chibi Frederica because I was thinking she was gonna get some gorey Alien style chest bursting death.
