I still dont get how he couldnt get some pussy; hes rich and in decent shape. Its one thing if youre a trainwreck - broke, sick, fat, car-less, etc - but FFS he had a BMW, enough money to buy all the guns and ammo, and appears to be in good physical health. I can promise you the social circles he was around set a much higher standard on men that they want to pick up. With that said, dude was rich and could have circumvented that standard with money. With that also said, this is exactly the problem with American society, especially in higher class social circles. When you have all of these TV shows and parties going on, it further pushes the imagery in society that women should only go for the very best and well established in life, and nothing else. Same society pushes men in the same circles to go for the skinniest, gaudy and the most superficial women they can find. I myself did not believe this until I moved to Pasadena (SoCal) and saw with my own eyes anytime I went into Alhambra, South Pasadena, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills.

Kid could have literally gone anywhere else in Cali not high class and picked up women left and right. However society made it so that he thought it wasn't good enough for him. Obviously the same exact society that made him racist to African Americans.

To their credit, it's not up to the cops to scour Youtube videos for every single sociopath-like video that's out there, otherwise it would be a very, VERY expensive and exhaustive process. However, when these parents reached out (if they ever did seriously), then it should be a problem if there was suddenly a disconnect with the cops getting these videos, as they instantly became evidence. For that reason, I seriously doubt these parents of his really went about trying to help their kid. That or they simply didn't go to the cops. the truth will come out soon enough.

He was seeing a psychiatrist from the age of 13. His parents called the cops on him after seeing his youtube videos. Plenty of people 'caught on' to his mental health issues. They failed to stop him from killing, but they knew something was wrong. A lot of effort is being put into painting him as 'the other,' some soulless monster that came out of nowhere and because of one reason (mental illness) decided to kill people. But this is an oversimplification, and it kind of bugs me that other avenues of inquiry are 'off limits' like his misogyny, his racism, and the places he found online that created a feedback loop for his hatred and rage. A lot of things are overlapping his mental illness, saying any one thing is the 'only thing' serves as little more than a deflection.

I actually agree that mental illness isn't the only thing. I, however, think it was the catalyst and was like a moth to a flame. The flame being things like misogyny, racism, etc.. Only thing is, I think if this were an alternate reality and misogyny didn't exist, I still think he would have killed someone. If it wasn't women as the flame, it would have been black men, or asians, or gardeners, etc. etc. His manifest and video surely sounded like he couldn't handle the way his life was and it was an obsessive "it must be them, not me." I doubt that this kid would have ever felt he lived a perfect life no matter the circumstances, and would have taken it out on whoever he perceived was causing the imperfection. And that's where the mental illness comes in.

Not every mental illness is created equal, and not every illness effects people the exact same way. Understanding of wtf is going on with mental illness is still pretty light. Lots of lonely people probably are so because of depression and social anxiety, this guy was an extreme narcissist and most likely suffering schizophrenia. Sure he probably had depression and anxiety as well, the anxiety pushing his narcissism/schizo shit to bad territory.
