There are multiple reports on social media that two RCMP officers have been shot in Moncton, N.B. after a man allegedly carrying high-powered rifles opened fire.

The suspect is also allegedly carrying a crossbow and knife.

4 dead, 3 are cops.

I've been keeping up on as many sites as I can.
This shit apparently went down less than a block from where I used to live.

At this point, I'm a little relieved he's not in where we are now, but it's definitely unnerving.

This is pretty intense by Canadian standards. In New Brunswick (the Province this is happening in), there was a total of 6 homicides in all of 2012, to give it some sort of a scale of reference.

Yeah they have an entire area restricted here in the city.

My wife and I had to go around the area to get to work. I didn't know until I got to my office after dropping her off that they had closed the place for the morning. No point in going back out now, we're both more secure at work then we are at home. We live more outside the city than most so we're away from the restricted area.

Just got word, they closed my wife's work so I'm heading home.

This is actually a pretty crazy story. I love hockey (shocking given avatar / sig) and read HFBoards a lot which has a ton of Canadians on it with a fair number living in Brunswick / Moncton. There's like a 30 page thread on the site about it with some interesting first person accounts. Also the police scanner for the area is streaming online and there's like 20,000 people listening to it.

It's pretty rare for a guy to kill 3 cops, shoot two others, and manage to escape for over 24 hours while penned in a grid a couple square miles in size with several hundred cops in it. After they got a tip he was in an apartment complex and he wasn't there, I think he's somehow made it outside the pen. Also, the infrared helicopter from last night couldn't find him; almost makes me think he's had this prepared for a while and has like a private underground bunker hidden somewhere in the woods.
