    TV Question

I'm looking to replace my living room TV. It's finally kicked the bucket after 10 years and I'm wanting to upgrade it.

    Needs:
    50 inches
    Wall-mount
    Smart TV tech bullshit

I'd like to spend under $1000 bucks and I'm looking to get another 10 years out of a TV.

I don't want or need any 3D bullshit. High refresh rates are NOT essential as it's not used for gaming or anything.

    Any advice would be great.

I bought a 50" Vizio last year. 240hz, smart tv, though it does have 3D, you obviously don't have to use it, and paid 899 I believe for it.

I have the LG 50LB6000. IPS screen, 120Hz refresh, 50inches. The LG 50LB6300 model is the same, minus the IPS screen but has the smart features with LGs nifty remote.

Is there a major quality difference between brands? I see Vizio's pricing below LG, Sony and Samsung. Is there a reason for that? I was recommended this Samsung as well as the other two in here.

Honestly, we love our Vizio. We were initially looking at Samsung, but doing a side by side at best buy, the picture quality actually looked better on the Vizio. I also loved the fact it had 4 HDMI ports on it, which a comparable samsung would have been a few hundred more.

If you got a Costco or Best Buy near you, i'd recommend taking a look at the TV's. LG is a good brand as well and we were eyeing it as well. The Vizio just honestly to us was the best bang for our buck.

The only big reason I advise LG for TVs (if you don't go the plasma route) is because they do make their own panels, so they get the cream of the crop and sell off the rest to Sony and company. Vizio's panel are made from a Taiwanese company if I remember correctly. Honestly though it's one of those subjective things, you'll just have to look at them yourself.

Love my LG and my gfs Sony Bravia. Only downside are they have less HDMI ports than some other brands but that's fixed with a 10-20$ switch off of amazon.

Honestly between the two I can't tell you which is better. I've never seen them side-by-side and they both look fantastic. I guess the Sony probably wins though with better bezels, I've never played mode than Wii U on it though while my LG is set up as a 3rd monitor so I get more gaming/movie use out of it.

The Sony we also got for a steal cause it was a return and geek squad certified. Still brand new, no defects, just an open box. Make sure you look for similar at best buy, usually there's nothing wrong with them.

Depends on you. Its not used for gaming as you said but you'll want at least 2 anyway. 1 for Cable Box. maybe another for a blu-ray player or streaming device like apple tv/roku/chromecast.

Girlfriend has the most basic setup ever, still needed 3 HDMI ports for the Wii and Chromecast. Plus you never know when you're gonna expand and add another device. Get at least 2, you can always add a cheap HDMI switch off of amazon if needed like I said - that's what we did when we got the Wii cause her TV came with 2 ports.

I really only need 1 for the cable box. 2 if I ever decide to use Chromecast or something. I don't have consoles and I would never bother with a Blu-ray player.

If you have a little more room to spare here is a 55" Samsung for $895.99 with free shipping and no tax:

My parents have a 55" Samsung and it's amazing. I go over there all the time during football season to watch games.

Honestly 50 is the biggest that wouldn't look REALLY stupid in the room but that's a great deal.

    I use this:

    http://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-TOSl...ce+HDMI+switch

I use the TOSlink to hook up my Z-5500. Won't pass Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD but still pulls their source file from any HDMI source so my receiver decodes Dolby and dts.
