Mortal Ray isn't conal, it's an AoE based on the animation (hitbox goes in all directions and doesn't have a visible end point) just like the version used by the 1st boss in Quarn.
I always assumed the hunt version was a Gaze attack since that's how it worked in XI and since it's a 360° attack, I don't see how how else you would you avoid.
I fought Mahisha yesterday (first time really being able to see him well after the patch), and his Mortal Ray was definitely conal. At one point, he turned and used it on a target that was behind him, and it was clearly marked in a cone in front of him. I turned instinctively when seeing the ready bar going, but when I saw that the area in my direction wasn't targeted, I turned back and didn't die.
Maybe he's got two versions of Mortal Ray or something? A conal and a pure AoE?
The Mortal Ray is only conal and all you got to do is turn away from him. The organized part of Excalibur knows to do this and gets told them to turn, meanwhile the rest of Excalibur dies to the Doom every time.
I must have been thinking of another skill he uses then.
u mean to tell me, no one knows that mortal ray is only sight? wait till you see apocalyptic ray
damn kids these days need to attend the FFXI school!
learn to WS with your back facing the enemy!
Since many things don't work quite the same way as in XI, I somehow never even thought that Mortal Ray might work the same way as XI. It's pretty much - so far in XIV - been "don't stand in the indicator and you won't get hit". There really isn't a lot of good precedent to think of Mahisha's mortal ray that way either - doesn't the taur boss in Qarn doom you whether or not you're looking at it? (I guess that might be a different ability though). It's really good to know that you can avoid mortal ray just by turning.
But down in that tiny tunnel, it was nigh impossible to track anything what with the masses of people and the general inability to target/move anywhere XD I wonder if they will adjust pop points for some S ranks in the future to avoid situations like that.
That Taurus's Mortal Ray is diferent than Mahisha's, yes, because it forces you to use the pads to clear it. Since there aren't any for Mahisha, obviously, and I imagine SE assumed that there'd be situations where you couldn't easily get out of range of it (the mines for example), they gave Mahisha a different version of Mortal Ray that's far more reminiscent of XI's tauri.
not just mortal rays, gaze attack from ahrimans/peiste works the same too........ you should have tackled them since lvl 10?
Didn't they change the petrify move from Ahriman to AoE recently? Or was that something else?
I remember something like that mentioned at some point...something about a certain attack no longer being avoidable by turning away (basically just removing the "gaze" property).
I can't remember what it referred to specifically tho, might have been the ahriman attack.
It was Level 5/X Petrify which can now hit you turned, stuff like Dread Gaze is the same.
The only ahriman that use the petrify move are in CT and the one that spawns from alex maps I think.
Servers never went down for maintenance, look for your previous timers for S ranks. They were inaccessible for four hours, but timers kept ticking for every hunt target.
I don't know if it's been covered, but I spawned Brontes not from eating steak, but he spawned just as i finished the HQ craft before I even closed out my craft log. Was at the 27, 21 location.
For the curious, we just discovered today (finally!) how Garlok works. Gonna repost what I have put in my own official forums thread on the subject, ask questions if you are interested in knowing more.
Comparing data with other servers and looking at historical data from this Japanese tracking site at http://ff14.gcgame.org/mobhount/mobdetail?MobNo=9 (this links to Garlok only), we can now say that Garlok is a global spawn much like Laideronnette, with some deviance for every server for some reason I can't quite pinpoint.
First, the conclusion: once it Showers in Eastern La Noscea after Garlok's timer is up, look 9 weather cycles ahead. If the next 9 weather cycles do not contain either Rain or Showers, Garlok will spawn on the 9th cycle since Showers. If it Rains or Showers, the cycle resets and you look for Showers and 9 more weather cycles without Showers/Rain.
Now, how did I come to this conclusion? By looking at the weather data I've been gathering, of course! Let's do some data, shall we?
I've seen this repeat at least seven times now. I don't have weather data that far back so I can't verify historically if it has always been true.Code:Sample 1 Garlok spawns at Sun, 12 Oct 2014 16:30:00 GMT 9. Discovered something interesting about Thousand-cast Theda earlier this week. If you hook the Judgeray, but it gets away there might be a possibility she can still spawn. Had one get away and she spawned right behind me immediately afterwards.
