House deed question

Hijacking the thread a little bit... Hope you don't mind Somewhat similar, but at the same time completely different scenario:

My grandparents recently passed away, and my mom apparently has been having a hell of a time transferring their apartment into her name so that she can sell it and get a smaller apartment (Don't need all those rooms anymore ) and this process is apparently costing a lot of $. She was thinking of maybe putting the new apartment in my name, to avoid this in the future, should something happen to her.

The catch: Everything I described above is in Brazil. While maybe subject to change, I don't see myself moving back there any time soon. I don't suppose anyone would have any idea on the implications if I do put the new apartment in my name? >_>
