    Fantasy Life [3DS] (October 24, 2014)

Public Service Announcement: If you buy the DLC for the game you can only play with people who have purchased the DLC and vs versa if you don't.

Also, you don't need to buy the DLC until AFTER you beat the game. It can't activate until then. So don't buy the DLC yet.

    To access your downloaded content:
    - Befriend
    Spoiler: show
    Yuelia
    by finishing the main story.
    - Reach character level 45 and befriend
    Spoiler: show
    Noelia

    - Finally, reach character level 50, go to
    Spoiler: show
your house, and speak to Yuelia.

    Developers: Level-5, 1-UP Studio
    Artist: Yoshitaka Amano
    Composer: Nobuo Uematsu
    Platform: 3DS
    Release Dates: NA Oct 24, 2014 | EU Sep 26, 2014
Genre: JRPG (will have online multiplayer as well as local multiplayer)

(The Japanese version was originally for the DS and it received a 3DS expansion. The NA and EU versions although not being called 'Fantasy Life Link!' will be the expansion version which includes the online multiplayer)

    Game Trailer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj9V5-7Vqno

The game includes a class system, quests, a short but sweet storyline, and tons of battling and crafting. It also has housing features.

    Class Breakdown:

    Fighting Classes:
Soldier: Sword + Shield (Tanky, with quick strikes)
Mercenary: 2-handed Sword (Big Damage, slow hits)
    Hunter: Bow (Status Debuffs)
    Magician: Staff (Elemental Spells)

    Gathering Classes:
    Miner
    Lumberjack
    Fisherman

    Crafting Classes:
    Cook
    Blacksmith
    Carpenter
    Seamstress
    Alchemist

The game has a high level cap (200)
Stat distribution (can be reset for 30,000 rich*)
*rich is the currency in the game in the Japanese version
    Pet companions
    Character customization
Large monster hunts can be carried back to NPCs for rare items.
It is possible to beat the game passively. (no leveling combat classes)

Also shamelessly adding my twitch video, includes Persona Q and some Fantasy Life.
    http://www.twitch.tv/minakorocket/b/554264383

I'm pretty hype for this game to play with people. It did well enough in Japan for them to decide to continue this IP in the future.
It's definitely not a "difficult" game but it is really enjoyable!

Also when the NPCs say don't wake the sleeping dragon. Seriously do not wake that sleeping dragon.

Or do it. Take pictures. Videos. Let me watch them.

In all seriousness, if you don't own a 3DS already I would be convinced nothing will get you to buy one at this point.

My vision is that this game does so well that they start making online multiplayer for other games of the same vein. (Rune Factory? Please?)

The game feels very... Final Fantasy/Dragon Questish with a sort of Animal Crossing flair to it.

No theres a bunch of games I want it for. I just kept on waiting to find a good deal and never got around to it due to my huge backlog of games. I'd probably get one for Bravely first thing and go from there. Maybe this year's black friday will be it!

I would love it if you get this game. I have a blast running around killing big monsters and hauling their bodies to the NPC for loot.

And the more friends I have the more I can play with everyone. Definitely going to make a soldier character from the get go as you come off as a pretty good all-arounder.

There are different kinds of monsters in the world that can turn into capturable mobs to turn in for loot (additionally high level fish/trees/ore can be brought back as well in a similar fashion)
This one's a low tier. So far I've only seen wooden cage and a gray cage. I think harder monsters will be in more elaborate crates.
Images go from left to right, top bottom... etc. etc...

    Monster
    Defeated Monster in Crate
Dragging the crate (can drag up to 3 large loots, maximum of 2 additional player/companions, means each person can drag 1)
    Turning in the crate
The extra loot on top of the rich.

Twitch video this would be the 1:09:00ish mark.

Also yes that is my dog companion, there are multiple kinds of dogs and cats. I also saw birds. Can have up to 2 pets. When they aren't in your party they stay in your house.

    EDIT:

As a miner/lumberjack there are "sweet spots" where you can strike for multiple drops if struck on the final blow.
If something is too high tier for you to successfully mine you will do 0 dmg to it. The boss mining/lumber points are pretty tough and will regen health so you can just widdle it with 2 dmg strikes.

When you main a class you gain their bonuses as well as wear class specific equipment but you can still use things that are not a part of your class (provided you've unlocked it).

I'm capable of fishing and mining just fine on my soldier class and also using a sword/shield on my fisher but the stats/equipment sure do make a difference...

Also certain stats help certain classes. (Think FFXIV 1.0) Certain crafting classes get a boon from one stat over another. Actually there's a base level for your character separate from your job level now that I think about it.

Job classes gain rank ups by achieving stars or basically... achievements but it's not like the bar is that difficult. For crafting it's pretty much craft 1x of every item and it will pretty much rank you up.

It sounds complicated but it isn't at all once you start playing.

My two tidbits in case you have read this far:

Don't get a horse. It doesn't move too much faster and if it gets hit it runs off. :/

Dash whenever you can. Leveling up your dashing skill is so good. At first you feel like you want to save your stamina. Nope. Dash.

Any questions or if you want a specific video on something I can do I will try my best.
    Added some common Q/A here.

    Some things in the game:
    - There are food buffs
    - Gear slots seem to have 2 spaces for bonus stats
    - There are auto-revive items
    - If your companion falls in battle you can raise them
    - Pets kind of level up or get more 'friendship'... hard to translate. I guess they get an ultimate attack or something? Finishing blow... I have no idea! My dog is not capped yet.
    - Looks like things found in treasure chests spawn something for each user so playing multiplayer doesn't degrade chest loot.
    - Your inventory can be increased to a maximum of 500 slots. Starts off smallish but I never had too much of a problem.

I'm only like level 15-16ish currently. I just reached the 2nd major hub town.

Hmmmmmm. Im on the border on this.
I like FF and HarvestMoon, and at a lesser extent DQ, but do not like AnimalCrossing.
    Will read more on stats/leveling/meta.

    Whats the online multiplayer about?
Not a fan of multiplayer in my JRPGs. Is it optional and nonconsequential?

The animal crossing aspect would be the house stuff. Pretty much nothing else. I think people are mostly calling it animal crossing -like cause of the aesthetic choices. I think the game swings more heavily towards Final Fantasy but not? I can do some gameplay of whatever you wanna see.

    Online:
The online multiplayer is completely optional. You can do local or online multiplayer to basically fight huge bosses or just explore around the world. In the original version of the game there was only local multiplayer but when they made the enhanced 3DS one they threw in online multiplayer. You have to use friend codes to connect to others so it's not a lobby sort of system.

    Streetpassing:
Some of the benefits of street passing is that you set items to your streetpass which will be traded to those you streetpass frequently as a reward. Kind of cool--dunno how much that will get used in America though. I suppose if you have a good friend you could set a rare item to be your streetpass item and get lots of rares.

If I can find people who want to play this, then I might be inclined to get it.

This one completely passed under my radar. I knew August/September was a good month for games, but geez, I dropped the ball.

This is actually one of the few games I have for my Japanese 3DS. I bought it while waiting for MH4, and really like it, but I just wish I knew more Japanese so that I could get a little further

I'll definitely be getting the U.S. release.

Yeah, I have to make up for dropping the ball on Toukiden.

Still haven't put aside time to play that.

Streamed some more video of the gameplay. I would turn the audio off. http://www.twitch.tv/minakorocket/b/554938345

Here's what happens when you press on the d-pad for the hunter/archer. You can select different arrows.

I think the icons are self explanatory.

Here's some of the housing. Before and after along with some transitional images. Sorry for the choppy work. At work--so sloppy.

Stats menu. This is also where you dismiss companions/view.

(I was doing even distribution on stats. I planned on once getting a lot of money to test what having best stats and worst stats would feel like in terms of difference in gameplay)

I realize that the long videos are not good for looking for specific videos of things.
Here's some twitch highlights I made more bite-sized:

Angry Bird. In case you see the footage and watch me chew through enemies, the harder enemies in these areas are no joke.
