DDOS attacks (PSN/XBL/Twitch/MMOs/Etc)

As some may know PSN is suppose to go on maintenance Monday august 25 2014, but today the 24 PSN is down, possibly due to a DDOS

PSN is offline at the time of writing, apparently thanks to a DDOS attack.

A group called @LizardSquad is claiming responsibility for the action.

Shacknews is reporting that Battle.net, League of Legends and Grinding Gears’ Path of Exile have also been attacked, although Hearthstone appears to be fully playable at the moment.

Security cost ALOT of money, and alot of companies just go IT'LL BE FINE DON'T WORRY (aka i don't wanna pay for security and lower my profits) But sadly having downtime like is also lowering profits

You're making it sound like there was some sorta data & information breech, it was a ddos quit trying to make it seem like it costs a lot of money to prevent and fix any issues caused by it.

Security doesn't necessarily go hand in hand with a DDoS attack. From what I currently understand, accounts aren't being compromised; they are just hammering the servers/network infrastructure. Whoever the attackers really are, they are just stroking the dick; if the DDoS wasn't done, in the first place, there wouldn't be much of a need to have an infrastructure to handle it so them saying they do it to get companies to 'upgrade their security' and being greedy, falls flat, with me. Account security is a whole different issue though...

Security doesn't just mean Account compromised

This just mean they don't have a system that can shut down connections when it's not a legitimate one, that is a part of security that companies don't take time to fix because it costs too much.

If I hammer with you with phonecalls what will you do? Either Block me, or just press the Switch on your phone so that the call is rejected. They need a system like that, When they are getting alot of connections in a short period the system needs to be able to detect if it's a good connection or a DDOS attempt and shut it down if needed

A firewall and or a router both setup for packet filtering can fix that, that high cost security yo. Gonna go down to my Zonelabs or w/e the fuck they're called and get me that security.

if servers where the PSN systems are being hosted at the same place as other stuff like say SE with XIV then both will go down even though only a certain one is being targeted. Very likely whats going on here. Ive had half my internet available for most of yesterday, I could reach certain sites but not others. steam chat worked but steam front page didnt, battle.net worked but was laggy as shit, XIV was down completely for me, even my vent server was down and I couldnt get anything BG
