Dota 2 us east server got ddosed as well, was pretty unplayable last night.

if servers where the PSN systems are being hosted at the same place as other stuff like say SE with XIV then both will go down even though only a certain one is being targeted. Very likely whats going on here. Ive had half my internet available for most of yesterday, I could reach certain sites but not others. steam chat worked but steam front page didnt, battle.net worked but was laggy as shit, XIV was down completely for me, even my vent server was down and I couldnt get anything BG

That sounded more like a DNS problem

Lizard Squad are fakes? XBL next on hitlist

When it was reported earlier today that Sony's PlayStation Network was down due to a DDoS attack, it was believed to have come from a hacker group named Lizard Squad. That no longer appears to be the case as a new culprit has stepped up and claimed credit.

He goes by the name "Fame" on Twitter (@FamedGod), and apparently he's the true person behind the PSN DDoS attacks today. Admittedly, I'm not too familiar with the hacking scene, but it's said that he is a member of Anonymous. I don't know, nor do I care. I hate this hacking crap.

Not only does @FamedGOd take credit for the attack, but he also divulged the IP addresses for members of said Lizard Squad.

According to Fame, the reason for hacking Sony was to teach them a lesson. "Learn and hire people for security you cheap ass company," he said.

He also threatened Xbox would be next to be hacked.

The statements made by the gamezone article's author lead me to believe that not only does he not know what the fuck he's talking about, I'm surprised he even knows how to operate a computer.

1) DDoSing is not hacking.

2) The guy (not the author) is an autistic manchild spouting off WEE R LEEJUN to whoever will listen. You can smell the leather trenchcoat and cheeto dust when you open his page.

3) Yes, the M$ Live threat is real. No, nothing will come of it.

Me talking out my ass: probably, yeah. It's not that difficult to stop if you actually wanted to. Sony has the resources to do so and chooses not to, much like many other choices re: PS4 development. DDoSing is sorta like taking a shit in the pool: you accomplish nothing, and everyone gets mad at you because you inconvenienced them for the rest of the day.

I'd like to point out Sony's hilariously terribad hypocrisy in branding their next-gen console as "DRM-free" and not requiring "always online" when everything that isn't a disc can't be played when PSN is down, even shit they have no input on (XIV). And this is coming from someone who's never owned an Xbox-anything in his life.

Like, not even demos can be played right now. Demos. During a PSN outage. You almost have to try to be that fucking retarded when developing a console to accomplish that.

PS3 might be different, haven't tried it today, but "Cannot start the application. Cannot connect to the server to verify the license" is what everyone trying to play something digital on PS4 is getting right now.

They never once said that digital games would be DRM free iirc. Retail disc based is all they promised.
