Every time I see people talk about the hassles of getting and paying for insurance, I am so grateful for my amazing free insurance through work. It's so great. The funny thing was they were trying to cut it when the ACA was getting implemented, but the contract negotiators basically said that was completely non negotiable. It's hard to give up something this good.

    @Sky

It's just called United? http://www.uhc.com/ This one?

Also question on the copay stuff, since i'm new to all this.

Say I go to the doctor for the flu, and get some antibiotics or w/e. Do I need to pay all of this out of pocket up to my deductible? or is that there for serious things like I get rushed to the ER and lose a leg type stuff?

Since it's usually just a visit to Patient First to get checked out right now and get some prescription, I want to make sure i'm not paying out of pocket for the entire visit.
Sorry for the late reply, wasn't able to do web search at work (Just started new job on Monday, yay for me).

https://www.uhone.com/Quote/PlanList...e=SHORT%20TERM Basically worked my way to this point and worked out the different terms. I did the 1000 deductable 80/20 for 6 months and it worked out to 159 a month. You can do 1-11 months for a short term plan so just do the comparison and find one that works for you.

If you want to go in manually go to uhc.com > Plans for you and family > (right hand side) Get a quote and it will ask for your age and how many people > Click on Short term plan tab

At this point it will list all of the different plans. I just sorted it to the 1000-2499 deductable and then compared all of the 1000-1500 ones until I found the one I wanted. I was approved overnight and printed my cards the next day.

To answer your second question, most everything is going to count against your deductable until you hit it then the 80/20 will kick in. It's obviously helpful for emergancy situations which is what prompted me to get it in the first place. I lost my job in April (someone intentionally but that's another story) and didn't bother with insurance. Well, turns out in July I was rushed to the ER and spent overnight for testing. Now I have about 12,000 in medical bills (pre-charity discounts since I was unemployed at the time, I'm still waiting to see what my final bill is).

Long story short, It would have been well worth 150 a month to not have to worry about a 10k+ bill. At least I got the insurance since and for all the medication and shit i'm on since my visit it's saving me money there. It's worth getting.

Awesome thanks for info. Also weren't you working at a college or something Skyyla? I remember you chiming in a long time ago in my Art Institute thread.

Yeah I worked for 2.5 years in admissions. I left that in Dec. of 2011 to go to a more traditional sales job and was there from jan 2012 until April 2014 once I fully realized just how corrupt and unethical the company was in their sales tactics and straight up lying to people to sell their product. I raised my concerns about their ethics and they tried to coerce me to resign. When I refused they fired me and that was in April.

I just started a new job on Monday as a career advisor for another college which I'm pretty excited about. I'm getting my masters in School counseling so having some career advising background will be very helpful if I can become a high school guidance counselor like I want to be.

That said and to your original point I have a pretty extensive knowledge on the whole going back to college thing both from the college side, and the student side.

Its like living in Canada. It just amazes me on how weird getting insurance for health care is in America. That and how expensive it is. Boggles my mind. :/

It's like everything American. If you can't dick people over and make shit loads of $$ at the same time, then it's probably socialism (aka communism).

Actually, that's kind of what it is for insurance companies. If they don't meet a certain loss ratio threshold they have to send out reimbursements to consumers typically (At least in individual and small business-not sure about large businesses). Profit margins are also usually pretty low, varying from less than 0% profit (relying on investment income) to around 6%. If healthcare in America wasn't so damn expensive, we'd be a lot better off and insurance costs would be lower. You aren't very likely to say "I don't need this service" when you're in the middle of a heart attack though, so hospitals can raise prices pretty much as high as they like. At least that's my take.

Going to tack a question on here and hopefully someone answers by today.

Insurance is done on the 1st of September, so tomorrow. If I go get eye glasses today, will that still work for my insurance covering it?

As long as you've received the email that you are approved and can print out your temporary cards you are fine. You should have also gotten an email saying what the effective date is. If that's today then you'll be fine, but just make sure you have your cards so there's no question.
