Nintendo reveals the New Nintendo 3DS

Nintendo revealed today its New Nintendo 3DS system, an upcoming version of the 3DS hardware that features a second stick built in, in addition to new shoulder buttons.

The new system was confirmed today during the Japanese Nintendo Direct. The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS LL feature a smaller analog "nub" above the A, B, X and Y buttons. Likewise, existing buttons have been colored to match the old-school SNES controller.

The hardware will also arrive with new shoulder buttons which will be situated next to the existing ZL and ZR buttons. Check out a front-on view below.

Additionally, the system will features a better CPU than previous models, according to Nintendo, which allows for faster eShop browsing and downloading. It is also set to come with a built-in NFC on the bottom touchscreen for the upcoming launch of the amiibo NFC models, while sliding custom covers will also come with the device, allowing owners to customize the hardware. Nintendo also claims that stereoscopic 3D will also be better than it was in previous devices.

Both models are scheduled to launch in Japan on Oct. 11. We've reached out to Nintendo for details of a North American release; however, the company has already confirmed no New Nintendo 3DS system will launch for North America this year.

I have no idea how I feel about this actually. Not surprised but a little surprised. Price is good, hardware looks good. I don't really use the 3D a lot, but they hooked me partially with the Xenoblade port. No faceplates for XL announced yet? Not sure whether the XL gets a removable battery too. Need more info, but I will say, those Famicom buttons are goddamned sexy.

Oh and Scythiroth, Xenoblade prices are not nearly as bad if you didn't know. You won't pay 'normal' used prices for them, they are around 40-45 at Gamestops. Check stock online. Every single one of the 10 stores in a 20 mile radius from me has it in stock. Not ideal, but not $100 anymore since they released their stock finally.

Oh, that's good. I just remember checking a while back and seeing them all crazy high prices when I was talking about the game to friends lol. None of them wanted to spend that much for a game, and I couldn't blame them.

That Poogie (number 38) is goddamn adorable. The clear backplates (21 & 22) are pretty great also.

I hope they adjust the controls on the 3ds, wasnt a big fan of em on the WII (and they were kinda annoying to put on a PS3 controller for dolphin)

Never had an issue when I was selling them. The biggest confusion they had was what was the differences between the 3DS XL and the regular 3DS.

Actually the most difficult thing for people to wrap their minds around was the 3 Xbox 360s back in the day. People were stupified. I blame the naming convention on those though.

Friend of mine works and GS and still gets questions about whether or not the Wii U hooks up to the Wii or w/e.
Super Wii probably woulda just made people think about NES/SNES

The hardest sell here will be how do you tell people that the "New" 3DS games don't work with their old 3DS.

I can see confusion up the wazoo on that.

The Ebgames manager near my home keep telling me that people come and ask for a WII U Gamepad to go on the wii (because they think the WII U is just the gamepad and an accessory for the wii)
