Based on the iOS version, which was itself based on the DS version. So that means it's more difficult than the SNES cart and introduces the new Augment system, which lets you teach characters unique abilities that stack on subsequent playthroughs.

If you're referring to me, personal preference. That and I enjoyed the extra post-game dungeon that the DS/iOS version lack.

I already have the DS version of this, so I don't see a reason to buy it. But for those that missed the DS version and hate touch controls, it's a good way to play the game if you don't have a PSP.

[Correction]

This version is the best-playing version of FFIV you can get. Actually challenging bosses and you can't just cruise through on auto-pilot the way you could FF2-SNES or the PSP version.

The PSP version for me feels more polished aesthetically, plus it has the post-game content and lets you go to the moon with other characters. That said, I did like the ability system in the 3d version, plus the addition of some backstory elements not present in the other iterations.

Well, never got to play the DS version so that's pretty good to hear.

A part of me hopes they do this with iOS ports of 5 and 6. Fat chance, I know.

Honesly, seeing as they just announced XIII on Steam I would expect anything to be possible.

Here's to hoping for that. I'd love to have those two show up myself; It'd save me having to hunt up the old, hard to find GBA versions (FF5 is especially hard to find there; and yes I have a working GBA SP)

They would certainly handle better than on an awkward touch screen. It was ok for menus, but not so much for moving around.
