There are no other roles than those 3, and Debuff/Buff functionalities are imbued and spread among those 3 roles (some jobs having more and some having less of course).

It homogeneizes a lot and makes things a bit more plain, but also much easier to balance for them, to keep "numbers" closer and to create much more predictable situations for which they can tune difficulty of fights and possible strategies much better.

A pure support/debuff role in FFXIV is not possible imho and will never be possible, but a more definite/official implementation of a 4th role called "Hybrid" is still possible and a lot of people hope they're going to go that way.
A Hybrid Role would be something that in terms of pure numbers performs much less than other "pure role" jobs, but brings something else to the table to compensate for that.
Much more emphasis on the debuff/buff side for these roles.

The contrast I saw is that if you say the roles will remain 3, then you won't have a 4th/5th (buffer/debuffer role), but maybe I just misinterpreted that sentence.

I don't understand. If you need MP, BRD sings MP song, if you need TP, BRD sings TP song, if you need extra damage, BRD sings damage song. It's not complex but it functions as support when you need support. No other job (except maybe SCH with Selene) can consistently provide passive support like a BRD can. And while BRD is strong for other reasons, it's never strongest while supporting for the most part. It doesn't prevent later jobs from having support abilities along with whatever main role they need to do. Considering every job has a debuff of some kind you can presume that a debuff oriented DPS will have more debuff effects attached to their attacks (same with healer/tank).

And we have semi-hybrid roles in SCH and WAR which are both capable of decent DPS, but are still fully competent in their main roles. You can take it as a literal interpretation that they will add a support role alongside the trinity, but you seem to know better. All it says to me is that they'll consider more support/debuff roles within new jobs.

If you played WoW, think about the model for Shaman in Vanilla and TBC.
That kind of role, which for WoW at that time was clearly a 4th role in addition to Tank, DD and Healer.

The thing is BRD can deal enough direct damage on their own to keep up with other DPS, the songs are just an optional bonus.

If BRD didn't have Requiem (the only song that doesn't nerf their damage and directly increases party damage) they would still be brought along to every fight in the game even tho fights where Ballad/Paeon are regularly necessary are few and far between.
