OpenGL isn't the same as DirectX and they thought they could cut corners.

Same, not that I was interested about it, but it's just today that I heard there are issues with it and seeing that long post it seems things are pretty bad (too tired to read it atm to see what's the problem exactly).

But the PS3/PS4 versions are OpenGL aren't they?

I can't say I know much about this stuff but I don't see why that in itself would be such a road block.

If they have a version of the game running off OpenGL why not just base the Mac version off that than try and convert the PC DirectX version.

I suppose that sounds like cutting corners tho I guess.

Common misconception, but no.

Long story short, Sony does what it needs to make games work on their hardware. Apple doesn't.

Even if SE didn't "cut corners" and wrote FF14 from the ground up for opengl, it would be significantly slower than the PC DirectX version. Apple is working on a high performance graphics API for their platform in the future, but its gonna be so "do it our way" that no one will use it. The apple version does work, you just need better hardware than SE said you did, THAT is the problem and what they are apologizing about.

Also yeah..all they had to do was look at Nyzul and Salvage, see what was wrong with it, modernize it..profit like fuck while adding interesting content and music.
