King's Quest to bring back nostalgic adventure in 2015

Of all the games I never expected to see again, this is near the top. I remember playing this on the PC in the late 1980's, and hand transcribing the manual, which was their form of copy protection. Something like twelve 5 1/4" floppy disks made up KQIV, it was the biggest game ever at the time.

Guessing a bunch of people reading this have never even heard of King's Quest, and weren't alive when the last sequel was released, but I, for one, am stoked.

I'm a little weary that this will end up being a bland attempt to recapture what was so great about Sierra adventure games, but it's nice to see the spirit of the genre having something of a revival in recent years. I think the free remakes of King's Quest 1-3 and Quest for Glory 2 by AGD Interactive combined with the rise of Let's Plays and streaming have done a lot to rekindle interest. Sierra point and click games where the shit back in the day. Even though this looks like it has no connection to the original, aside in name alone, i still look forward to it

Kings quest 4 was something my dad played back in the day as a kid. I remember enjoying helping him with the puzzles, until he reached the minotaur's maze. Then the time limit and the creepy noises terrified me so much i never wanted to watch that game again, haha.

That was KQ6, but yeah that part was pretty intense for young kids.

As for the trailer, I like the callback to KQ1 with the mirror. I'm optimistic this could be a lot of fun, especially if they go nuts with all the comically horrible ways Graham could die in the originals.

Most comical death achievement still goes to quest for glory 1. You could actually kill yourself picking your nose leveling your lockpicking skill.

To capture the true feel, you have to be able to make the game unwinnable within the first hour, but you don't know it until the very end. Great for nostalgia, but gamers today would never put up with it.

Not quite as extreme as beginning of the game, but the chestburst delayed death in one of the Space Quest games was so good I wasn't even mad.

I think it's notable that these games had a LOT of violent, gruesome ways to die too. Stuff that I can't ever see flying in a modern remake.
