The Ragnarok flavor text when you receive it mentions that the weapon was a sword in the past. They know they are trolling and at least admit it this time unlike their stance with the Elder Staff/Omnirod.

I guess I'm just wondering what they're going to call the DRK relics, because Ragnarok is taken by a Great Axe, and Liberator is taken by a Polearm. Apocalypse, I guess? I'm really hoping DRKs use Greatswords and not Scythes though.

Balmung isn't on that list, and honestly I think would fit the theme of Dark Knight + Ishgard dargon lore. There's also the classic Chaosbringer/Deathbringer from XI DRK lore. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was Chaosbringer for the relic line. No clue what the Zodiac one would be.
