I heard about this today. It is such a blow to the news business he was one of the best reporters of all time.
This is huge news here, Raleigh area. Sadly he couldn't remember hardly anything the last few years, but still went to his office every week until he got too sick to go.
I hope he wasn't involved in all that academic scandal, I've always been an NC State fan but Coach Smith has my respect. He did a lot to desegregate basketball in the south and push civil rights on the right path.
