    GPU Advice

    Hey guys,

So I recently got back into FF14 and I am using an i7-2600k with 580s in SLI. It doesn't seem like FF14 utilizes SLI that great or maybe I have something configured wrong so I am starting to look at upgrading to a 970. My gut tells me I should see better performance in 14 with the 970 (and less heat/electricity usage!) but wanted to confirm with my fellow nerds.

    Thanks!

edit: I also run at 1920x1200 atm. Wouldn't mind a bigger monitor one day but you know, that whole money thing.

Yes the GTX 970 will give you much better performance in the trade off with the heat etc. If you are planning on going to a larger monitor or resolution (1440p) i would reccomend getting the 4GB model.

Also I like how 14 having Koenig armor has once again made my avatar relevant. Woo!

    You don't need 4GB for 1440p, or 1600p.

Aren't all 970s 4GB? I don't remember seeing any variance between the different models (other then clock speeds and cooler design obviously) when buying mine.

Yes, for now. There will be 8GB models out soon though, but for most resolutions/applications 2gb-4gb will be enough. I should have amended my last post that I was making a general statement.
