Haha, looking at that picture makes me think I'm going crazy.

My girlfriend can see it as both Gold and White & Black and Blue, but I can see only see it as a Black and Blue picture that simply has way too much lighting.

Funny how people can perceive the world . A picture like this must really suck for the colorblind.

Actually, after talking it over with the missus, we both see it the same way, but perceive and interpret it differently. It's basically a shitty photo taken with a yellow flash blub, which added the hues that viewer perceives. Viewing is one things, interpreting, another. People interpret it as white and gold, almost certainly are discounting the rest of the photo and are focusing on the dress itself. People that see blue and black are looking at the entire picture as a set. People that can see both are more than likely looking at the darkest and/or the lightest hues of the dress, and allowing their brain to attribute this color throughout the dress as well, hence the reason this picture exists with the color variation:

Discount the gold, you see blue and black. Discount the blue, you see white and gold. The truth of the matter is, the true color of the dress is no different from the color of this controller:

The black is a reflective surface and the light in question is a shitty yellow incandescent bulb so the black portion of the dress reflects part of the yellow light back into the camera. Black diffused with yellow gives off a dark gold/bronze coloration.

It's dyed fabric. No dyed fabric is truely black, and a sufficiently bright exposure will show some of the underlying colors of the "black", often a bit reddish or brownish.

It's something you can often see in an old faded black shirt, when held against a new black item in bright light/sunlight.
