G.O.P. Senators Write to Iran About Nuclear Deal

    http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/10/wo...=top-news&_r=1

WASHINGTON — The fractious debate over a possible nuclear deal with Iran escalated on Monday as 47 Republican senators warned Iran about making an agreement with President Obama, and the White House accused them of undercutting foreign policy.
47 Republicans signed an open letter written by Tom Cotton and sent it to Iran. the letter told the "leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran" that any agreements that they make with the President may not hold in the next election and can be terminated and or changed any time they please. Giving Obama a giant middle finger in the process.

    The letter:

Pretty fucked up in my opinion.

Hey Admins, i thought i put this in the political thread. Guess i should pay more attention, could someone please move it there?

There's already a petition on the White House page to charge the 47 senators that signed it with treason. In one day it's already got 97,000 signatures.

Not that anything would happen with this other than an official White House response. However they did violate the Logan Act. But the terminology of the act is "citizens" where they can claim they are representatives.

Something needs to be done for sure, the Republicans went to far in this case. While i do not see this as an act of treason by definition of american law, i will still be adding my name to the petition.

We should send them to Guantanamo.

Seriously, the level of disconnect is staggering. Are they really this clueless about the world and their role in it? Cynical, stupid, and stubborn are three things that are incredibly scary when put together.

If it were only a handful of people that signed it I wouldn't be that concerned. But the fact that 47 fucking elected officials were so out of touch with how international law works is, as mentioned above, staggering. The smackdown that the Iranian negotiator put on them was a collective bitch slap.

i would prefer a petition to recall (or whatever term) every person who signed it and permanently bar them from ever holding office again. treason is never gonna happen, as there's some legal stuff about laws that are never enforced having a time limit, so logan act doesn't apply that way, too. plus arresting 47 sitting senators would probably result in impeachment. not that anyone would give a fuck.

It would have to be handled by the districts they represent, right?

yeah, probably. i doubt there's a mechanism for mass-recall. really need an Archmage

edit: actually, i could see there being some kind of "vote of no confidence" type thing we could do to all of congress. just not large chunks. i think that'd still be worth it; sure there's a few good ones but the vast majority need a swift kick in the ass.

Signed because I'm tired of this vitriolic behavior and they clearly crossed the line.

Doubt anything comes of it, but I'll do it just to make the statement.
