Skimmed one of those HardOCP threads, seems there have been some burn in issues on the phillips :/
I was thinking about getting a Titan X for 3.0 release, but want to see how the r390(x) turns out first.

980ti should also be out the same month, we'll see hopefully their release to be benchmarked+purchasable before 3.0 release

I don't know much about Computers, do I DL dx11 or does it only work with newer cards? Whats the best way to pull up my system specs? If I post them here could you guys point me in a decent direction for upgrades?

DX11 support does depend on the card you have.
You can check your specs if you do right-click on Computer > Properties. Here you will see your CPU and RAM info, then on the left you can enter 'Device Manager' where under 'Display Adapters' is your graphics card. It won't give you the specific model, but at least a series name.

I fucking hate working with that heat sink, whenever I have one on my list for builds I have to do for the day I always put it off to the end.

970 for sure. And yes, an SSD is the single biggest hardware upgrade to any system that doesn't have one. They're hella cheap now too.

Soo, I'm actually thinking about getting 970 too. I'm pretty sure I want to get MSI, but now I see two versions 4G or 100ME - they're pretty close in price but it seems to me that 100ME is supposed to be a little better? At least because it has a backplate, but I think otherwise the specs are the same or very similar? Anyone could comment on that?

Edit: Ok, I googled a little bit more and 100ME is a limited edition, theoretically it should have identical specs, although on the MSI website a slightly lower boost clock in idle mode which doesn't even matter. I guess I'll go with this one since it looks so cool

Do I need to install Windows on the SSD or just FFXIV? I would like to keep my current HD and add the SSD if that's possible. For the 970 does the brand matter and is it close to plug and play?

    Thanks for the response!

You don't 'have' to install Windows on it, but it's also where an SSD shines the most. Those 4 second start-up times man.

Would that require the install Disk or can I mirror it off the current hard drive?

You could mirror if you have your current HDD setup properly where you have your OS on its own partition and everything else on a separate partition, otherwise you're going to need equal or more storage on the SSD to mirror over properly.
