Yeah, we did not like the acceleration in it. Was one of the first cars we crossed off after countless test drives.

Ya, I literally had the pedal to the floor trying to merge on the freeway, I was getting rather annoyed.
i think ive put the pedal to the metal like maybe 3 times in my scion, all for fun lol
Eh, better fuel mileage for less peak power I'm okay with my CX-5. I drive beyond the perimeter maybe 4-5 times a year and never drive to the USA so I'm fine with it. IMO still the best of its class if a lot of highway driving isn't in your daily commute.
Though I'm probably trading it in this year. Next car will have heated steering wheel and better heated seats. CX-5's heated seats are shit tier.
I wasn't sure if it was better to bump this thread or start a new one but since there is a thread for it here we go. We need to replace my wife's car. She wants a minimum of 34mpg highway. We have two dogs and one kid with possibly one on the way (not 100% sure yet waiting till doctors appointment) She wants a manual. She was looking at hatchbacks because it is easier with the dogs rather than having a trunk.
So far I think she looked at the Mazda 3 hatchback and the Nissan Juke.
What is everyones recommendations? Do you have a favorite midsize, SUV, crossover thing that gets decent mpg and has enough space for our whole family?
Budget is cheaper is better but max probably in the $25k range.
Thanks BG car people!
crossover thing? my buddy has a saturn vue that he likes pretty well.
hatchback car? my dad had a toyota yaris he loved. was surprisingly roomy for how small the car was. i'm 6'3" and never had problems with comfort, front or back seat.
2 adults, 1 maybe 2 kids, 2 dogs, plus all the shit you have to haul around for babies/toddlers...I don't think either a Mazda 3 or Juke is going to be enough room. I'd love to recommend a 3 hatch with the 2.5L and a stick. It's the same drivetrain as my 6 which I've loved it over its first 15,000 miles. I just don't know if it's going to be big enough for what you'll need. Definitely go take a drive and see what you think for yourself though. There aren't a lot of choices out there with a manual, but Mazda makes some of the best. You won't find anything in that price range that drives better, guaranteed.
Are they little dogs or big dogs?
Nice thank you. I will add those to the list to test drive. So far the Mazda 3 is a favorite. Very roomy fun to drive and the 6 speed manual version gets decent gas mileage. My wife was surprised by the Nissan Juke in comfort, space, and its speed but man is it an ugly car.
They are medium sized dogs ~30-35lbs Also I should mention that we have a Nissan four door truck for hauling lots of stuff though I will have to get a camper shell for it now so the dogs can ride in the bed safely and keep our stuff contained. That is another issue though because we need the camper shell off when we get hay. We can fit I think the record is 12 bales of hay in the back of that truck looks so strange when we do it but it stays. Likely the truck will be used for camping trips where we need more stuff. The car will be used for road trips where we are staying somewhere and need slightly less stuff.
Right now her car is a Ford Focus non hatchback and it fills up but we can make it work.
Probably at the top end of your budget for a new vehicle, but have you looked at the Golf or the Golf GTI?
Has VW figured out all their shenanigans? One of their TDI's would have been great but since the whole scandal thing I hesitate.
Looking at their website they have a Golf Sport Wagon that looks really promising. Good size slightly larger back trunk area than the other Golfs decent gas mileage and not too expensive.

Dis. Get dis.
GREAT gas mileage, lots of room, AWD.
itt: which boring "car" should I get?
ITT: Adults.
I don't put much stock into my boring DD, I am having a struggle making a decision on which weekend/trackday car to get. r32 gtr, 996 911, or c5/6 vette. 996 is the frontrunner. If I find a 997 in my throwaway bracket I'll be on a flight.
The 996 is so ugggggly. Get a 997.
