So I think the general consensus of this chapter is: "Holy shit DAYUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"
Correct? Correct

Also motherfucker still hasnt released his bankai. Was that even his shikai? Or did his eyebrows just get real mad?
i thought it was his hands, lol
Pretty much. As much as I like Ichigo wreckin shop there are at LEAST 10-12 characters that are developed far enough to have the reader invested in them. I wouldn't mind Ichigo staying locked up in his little ball for a while and letting the captains/vices be more than just stepping stones to his next power up.
I know it was cool to see actually see the old man do something, but am I the only one who thought most of the chapter was a giant 'meh' cause it's about a character who is not only dead, but was probably one of the more worthless characters even when he was alive?
It was a good way to show that these guys can't bankai as well as the people that actually owned the bankai. And Seeing young CC was sorta cool as well lol.
Or maybe Byakuya's Bankai is so bad ass that even a weakened version of it will fuck your day up. No reason to look too deep into this stuff lol.
Well, I saw it as valuable backstory to further along the old man's anger and retract my previous statement that these sorts of histories aren't valuable to the story.
I still stand by my earlier comments that it's a retarded way for Kubo to push his story along. I'm getting the feeling that he intends for us to care about the VC after reading his backstory but all it is doing is making me care more about the old man. I'm hoping that is his literary intent. I'm thinking it's not.
the old man is starting to show his emotions more since ichigo first came to the soul society, i think Kubo is just pushing this along by showing him he to had a friend he wants to protect (the memory that his VC had to train so hard to even glimmer) and avenge a man he had known for 5 life times
I just hope things get kicked into overdrive soon because I want to see the zero squad.
Didn't Kubo say 0 squad would make an appearance?
Then again, he also claimed we would learn about Ichigo's father's past last arc, and that never happened.
Keep in mind, the Steinritter's naming scheme seemed to suggest a possible 26 characters on top of whatever minions or bosses above those that'd be present. While Kenpachi and the Old Man have offed some, we've got like half of our captains diminished with most everyone below them being taken out or on the verge of such. While we'd all love to Kenpachi take 'em all out, he's liked to get hosed by the leader on a technicality with another gimmick specifically in store for Yamamoto akin to Aizen/Wonderweiss. Anyway, by the sheer number of possible enemy bodies, this would leave room for maybe 5 Zero Squad folks to hop in and clean up (could see the promoted lady mentioned in the pendulum arc) while seeing some bankais from those we haven't, too (Yama, Shinsui, Ukitake, Unohana, and then maybe Urahara's and even Yoruichi busting out a shikai/bankai).
Either way, it needs to get to this beginning point soon lest we feel the drag of the Arrancar arc all over again.
I remember it being deliberately stated Unohana was the second strongest captain after the old man. I swear I can remember reading that.
