Installing FFXI on a 2nd HD

Got an easy question for you guys, but I'm not sure if I have the correct solution or not. I'm going to be getting another HD and am planning on installing FFXI onto that drive, more room, faster access speeds. To do that how would I go about transferring the files onto the 2nd drive while keeping the registry data intact?

I'm thinking I would have to instal FFXI onto the 2nd HD to get the registry info, then just copy->paste the entire FFXI/POL folder on top of the new folder on the 2nd drive. Is this the correct way of doing what I need done? Or do I not even have to worry about the registry information? Never had 2 drives, so I'm new to these things.

Games only 7 or so gigs, do you honestly need another hard drive for that?

Then stop trying to increase your post count e-peen if you arent gonna be useful. . .

To answer your question it should work fine i installed everything to other HDD used a cross over cable (I think thats what its called) and just overide stuff to appropriate place in program files. Not sure if the instal part is necessary for expansions because i sent my friend the TOAU folders directly and he says it works ifne

At an attempt to get a solid reply, here are my reasons.

My current HD is like 30 gigs, I want to leave this drive for system files and apps. My new drive will be my media and game drive. 7 gigs is a lot of space on a 30gig drive, hence why I want to dump FFXI onto my second drive.

Any help would be great and thanks in advance!

This is a late bump, I did a search for "Moving FFXI" and "Moving FFXI onto a different Driver" but came up with nothing save this post.

Any clue? I'm pretty much in teh same boat as him.

40 Gig Master, 200 gig Slave. Want to make the Master as a dual-boot Windows crap only thing, and the 200 one for games/movies/more. Buuuut, cut/paste didn't wield so well. Any help possible? or do I really have to go through 3 installs and 3 hours of updates?

The windower forums has a good thread for this. I use this technique ALL the time. I actually have a Dual Layer DVD with all my FFXI files, registry export, and .bat file with all the .dll registration commands in it so I can just copy it over pretty much.

    http://www.windower.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8434

That's the URL to the guide, but all you would have to do is change the InstallFolder, key to whatever the install folder. Open up regedit, and navigate to the following path.

    Code:
    HKLM\Software\PlayOnlineUS\InstallFolder
There should be three keys, 0001, 0002, and 1000.

    0001
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\
    0002
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\TetraMaster
    1000
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer
Now you just need to change the path directory to wherever you copied the files to.

If nobody else knew that's okay. I had to search for months to find this answer.

Has this helped anyone? Or was there just complete confusion to the point that nobody wanted to reply?

To be 100% honest, I was so distrot about it that i decided to reinstall it all anyways.

The funny part is, I did it so i could partition my main drive. Ho Ho, partitioning it caused an error, and ironically enough it made me re-install windows.

I'm gonna install it on XP this time, and try to move it over to Vista via your given help :3. I'll let you know how it goes XD.

(Vista's a killer, i know. But surprising enough, I haven't encountered a single error yet)
