Building new comp - open to suggestions:

Hey guys, building a new comp... trying to stay in the 1500$ range.

Here's what i picked out so far... and looking for suggestions if you see anything wrong or had bad experience with a certain part.

    550 watt power supply: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=373065

    Mobo: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=247123

    Processor duo core 2.4ghz
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... Code=80860

    Ram 2 gigs ddr2
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... de=85026-3

HD: 150 gig 10k rpm raptor
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=101257

Vid card: 512 ddr MSi vnidia 7600
    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=327708

    Case
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... CatId=1509

I know I still need dvd burner/cd drive (that's easy enough and I'll just get that crap at staples with store credit)

Anyone see anything outstanding that won't function properly together?

Also i need a case (preferably a large tower of 80-100 $) anyone know a good spot i can order one from? thanks.

    Thanks guys =)\

Edit: Found a cool looking case, could just take the power supply out and put mine in... this case seem good?

<obligatory tigerdirect is an awful vendor post>

nvm... this isnt a deal site

Seriously, I wouldn't recommend tigerdirect unless you are willing to bet that nothing will be wrong with the products.

check out a deal site if you want maximum bang for the buck (i.e. fatwallet.com)

edit: also only check it out if you are willing to accept acceptable substitutes, i.e. smaller HD, different brand ram, retail/oem cpu, etc.

sounds dumb, but I'm not sure that power supply will be big enough. If you can, get the power wattage requirements off of the equipment you buy, add 45%, round up to a multiple of 50. I usually wouldn't reccomend below 650 for a gaming rig, but its up to you. Worse case, your psu will run far under its max load, making your rig cooler.

What's wrong with 8800 GTS? is that cheaper model with 320megs of ram out yet?

    I'd recommend this Vid card:

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=322827

I have two setup in SLi and they rock. They're quiet as hell and even in single card mode, they're unbelievable.

I also agree with the previous Power supply suggestions. Go bigger then 550, I would get at minimum 650.

All in all looks like it will be a nice setup. Good luck with it

if he's going to spend 300bucks on a vid card why not go for dx10?

Because chances are that by the time DX10 is relevant past some demo titles, current DX10 cards will be obsolete anyway. So it's more a matter of bang for the buck. A $300 DX10 card doesn't perform up to what a $300 DX9 card does, at least that I've seen benchmarks for. Possibly they've tweaked the drivers since then though.

too bad they don't have compare benchmarks like they do with CPUs.

Actually they do have the VGA charts, just the 8800GTS doesn't always win...which is why I missed it. The first benchmark they show is HL2, where it's slower than the ATI. Overall that does seem to be the better card for the money though.
