    Default BLU/WAR main tank

    I really want to give this a try, I have heard of people doing this on Sky Gods and even Tiamat. Few questions what would be ideal gear/spell set.

    I believe with cacoon defender good VIT build, 2x minne, tect5, taco you could easily hit 999 Defense.

    My concern would be keeping hate, can you spam spells w/o getting interupted? which ones generate the most hate?

    is anyone actually doing this succesfully?

    I did a search and found a ltitle bit of info but no real results with how hard gods were hitting etc.. hate holding.


    Also went th rough about 50 pages of the BLU thread, but it was just never ending.

    Possible, but why would you need to? Blood tanking is pretty outdated compared to /nin (pld/nin or rdm/nin) or nin tanking.

    Go try it. Tell us your results.


    If you can't figure out what you need, you arent going to be able to tank even if we told you.

    But then pld/nin would be even more overpowered and still no one would use pld/war

    I watched a BLU/WAR tanking Behemoth last night (I'd assume he was bored and figured he'd see if he could do it). Only things I really saw him doing was provoke, Disseverment, Frenetic Rip I think, and Cocoon...might have been another spell in there that I was missing.

    I never once saw him go below 90% HP and it wasn't as if cures were being spammed on it either, so I definitely think BLU/WAR can pull it off in some circumstances...definitely some NMs in Sky and Behemoth, not sure about anything much harder, though.

    /nin isn't hugely important if HNM is hitting you for the same as an exp mob would, i think i'm gonna post on alla and suggest PLD gets an anti /nin fix like SAM along with this 'fix' to sentinel

    Possibly but some HNM have extremely strong ws's not to mention /nin gives you the ability to completely avoid non ga spells. But yeah I wouldnt mind a change like that to mix things up time to time.

    the ws damage would also be halved by that method, the spell thing would still be a concern although more pld have magic dmg-% gear now.

    i think of it this way just because as you say the game is better when you have more viable jobs for given roles.

    Even if mobs hit you for half damage, getting hit is still a huge enmity reduction that provoke wont make up for, compared to shadows in the long run... So /nin would still take less damage and hold better hate.. Again, /war's only use is if defender damage mitigation outweighs that from shadows (mnk mob or w/e).. provoke is never necessary.

    shadow loss has its own enmity reduction, if pld could be fixed to match the rate of nin or /nin hate decay with regard to a permanent damage reduction (through mob DMG down or other method) then it's viable, there are plenty of ways to rebalance PLD without /nin as a tank.

    it doesn't really matter if you don't want /war, /rdm or /drk could become the most popular option. overall the job needs to be able to support itself without certain subjob abilities.

    Still though, I cant picture a time pld/war will ever pass pld/nin, because any improvements they make to pld (the job itself) will just improve pld/nin.

    THanks for the quick response, The only reason I want to try this is not for neccesity but just to try new things. I mostly tank nin/drk and just want to try something new.

    THank you to everyone with useful information.

    I kind of thought the limiting factor would be hate. The fact your blood tanking relieving so much hate would make it not really feasible to a /nin or nin/ option

    Only way would be if they made the mob completely lose interest by wacking away at shadows.. It would definitely be an interesting change in game mechanics..

    lol that would make war merit pts interesting. But I think that would kill the game alot, blood tanking doesnt work for everything.

    that's why i mentioned SE will probably have to use a samurai style casting nerf - specifically for ninjutsu (since obviously PLD still needs to use their natural spell set).

    say something like mob weapons have half DMG when attacking PLD from the front, trait or always up /ja; conveniently preventing kiting too >.>;

    there's a lot of ways to fix it so that /nin is weaker than /rdm and if SE was really dynamic, making face to face tanking the most viable method for PLD.

    But then wouldnt relying on /rdm be the same thing people hate that pld does now by relying on /nin?

    A while back my LS tried BLU/NIN on some wyrms (ouryu, tiamat, and jorm I think) and it worked ok. Hate generation is close to NIN/WAR, and damage taken can really be lowered thanks to Diamondhide and the MDB spells. We haven't used it or thought about it since most of the recent PLD buffs though.
