Help finding a program

Anyone know of a good media program that can cut sound files much like movie maker can cut movies to what you want, but not convert the sound file to some unknown format like most ones i find seem to.
Apparently bein fat with glasses means i know shit about computers according to my friends so i gotta ask here. Thanks.

I use Nero Wave Editor (comes with nero burning rom) but it might not support your sound file.

Cool Edit Pro is really handy audio editing software.

I've used Cool Edit Pro (Now Adobe Audition-Adobe bought them out) for about 5 years now, great program.
