Apkallu Seizure Assault

I'm trying to get all the assaults done and keep on losing this one using the advice from ffxiclopedia.

we're able to get to the part where the apkallu "likes" us and we give it the himsi, but then we dont know what to do to make it not run away. we run behind it and away from it etc and we have done it many times and nothing. Maybe someone has some advice?

If the apkallu sees anything in front of him he will run away, including other PC's. If you get one to like you stay right behind it and make sure your other members know you have one, if they walk in front of you/the apkallu, he will take off. If he gets too far in front of you he will stop for a second before he runs off, giving you a chance to get behind it again (usually happens when they path over high/low terrain).

noone is getting anywhere near it after we trade the fish. we give it the fish, then try to run behind it but it always just takes our fish and runs off. maybe were just unlucky?d

I've done it like 10 times, and usually bring 4 penguin by myself (while the other 2-3 players bitch it's impossible and give up after 10min >_>). I don't think other player can make your penguin run away if they walk near you, not sure about fish but I always kill those early.

I usually /wave until they become curious, then /welcome. If you get the "like you" messages, you need to click on it asap while going right behind it. You have like 1sec to do it before it changes its mind again and start running. After that, you need to stay behind it for the whole time, kinda hard with the terrain at time but it's doable.


If an apkallu flee, it usually become much harder to control after. I never have trouble with the first 3-4, but after, they become really hard to capture. I think it's easier to get one that is completly calmed.

Not really. It has to do with your maneuvering. You have to perfect it. Trust me it sucked we had to lose once before we were able to perfect it the second run.

After you manage to trade it the hamsi, you have like 1 second to run RIGHT behind it. Like I don't mean within melee range but I mean like say what would be just outside of melee range. You have to be quick and remain linearly behind it. Never even slightly to its left or right side, but DIRECTLY behind it at a distance barely outside of what would be standard melee range. Never get closer than that, and never get farther than that or it will run away and your effort will be for naught. It takes practice to be able to gauge by eyes.

I always follow them at melee range. Following them from too close fail, but 1-2 feet behind works well

If you follow it in first person mode, then you can be right up on it, touching it even. I practically run back to the Prof. with them whenever I do this assault now. (took 3 losses to finally figure it out)

I usually go in to walk mode to follow. Nothing can be on the path between you and the prof so it's a good idea to kill all the pugs you see.

biggest thing I found with this assault was you have to stay EXACTLY the right distance when following them or they run everytime.

If he stops, either back up or move up - use your best judgement for this.

The hardest parts for me were right after it comes off the bridge, it does a 90 degree turn while coming off the bridge and you have to stay behind it; Also, when he decided to climb a large rock and you need to stay behind him somehow.

It is a frustrating assault for sure but it could be worse..*cough*Lebros Supplies*cough*

The Wiki page suggests that low numbers are better for this one to avoid having an extra person scare returning birds. IMHO, I disagree with this for people that haven't mastered escorting birds themselves. If you're new, it's far better to have more people to give you a better chance at finding someone that's naturally skilled at bird-escort.

The only real tricks are slaying every fish you see and making sure when someone gets a bird, they spam chat with "avoid me, returning with bird!" Everyone in the party has to know how important it is to stop everything, check map, and run away from bird escorts. It's still an annoying mission unless you're just lucky and have a natural escort with you.

Just tried this 2x and I am ready to go postal on any SE employee I encounter.

Went in with 4 people and nobody had any luck with it.

Got the bird to like me too many times to count.
Gave the bird a fish and captured it too many times to count.

The bird will usually instantly run away after taking the fish. The problem seems to be that it is already facing you. So it sees you imediatly. Am I supposed to be behind it when I trade the fish?

2 times I succeeded in starting the escort, but it would do the 90 degree turn thing and instantly run away.

60 minutes gone. 2 tags wasted. I think "Seizure" is how this stupid assault is supposed to make you feel.

Yes, get the bird to like you, lock on, circle to the side/back of the bird and then feed it.

Try this with a beastmaster. I lost this twice, then on the thrid attempt my friend who was bard changed to beastmaster. basically he would do the emotes give them the fish and they would auto run back to the professor, it was not possible to stop them, couldnt scare them at all. I even tried clicking on them as they were running back with him not following them. he was also unable to make them so angry they run away like they can do if you screw up a few times. this was a good 2-3 months ago though so it might be fixed if a lot of people were doing what we were.

I tried the first person mode as you suggest and was able to follow one in on the first attempt.

We were all so happy to finally get the win on this, we just exited right then with 25 minutes still on the clock.

I'm confused. Are you saying that changing jobs to BST has magical penguin-siezing properties, or was there something the BST was doing? Having a pet out? Charming one of the weak mobs that start out spawned?

3/4 of our Assault team have BST at 75, and I've attempted to...enjoy this assault in the past, so if there's some crazy secret it would be good to know.

I can attest to this (I was the bst)...I would do the whole bow thing to the birds then they would just run on their own to the professor. they would pass by pugs and pcs without giving a second glance. Never tried it since then, probably should though..

ok so tried it again and either it was a random glitch the first time or they fixed it, it didnt work this time around.

the first person mode thing makes it ALOT easier though.
