    Final Fantasy XI: Products of Merchandising

    Final Fantasy XI is now five years old. Five long years of activeness in the MMORPG history. With soon four expansions in its sleeves, the game is still enjoyable thanks to its many interesting stories (meaning missions), job system, culture, gameplay and strong graphic engine which even if it looks out-to-date now is still pretty decent, even now. With a reported 300.000 active players base and 500.000 accounts created, SQEX had to bring some products designed from this peculiar online game.

    Maybe you don't know but FFXI is actually unpopular among the people even if there're several events which stood up around the world. They could have made a TV animated serie to boost up the popularity of their game (like RAGNAROK did some years ago) but instead, they only made a serialized manga (which its publication is stopped now due to unpopularity) and few products merchandising.

    Here is my first topic and it's about the merchandising of FFXI. They're rare but pretty interesting.

    Table of content:
    * Game Package
    * Guidebooks/Artbooks/Mooks
    * Goods/Figures/Toys/Plushes
    * Music Records
    * Comic Books/Novels/Doujinshi
    * Fan Art Sites/References

    We'll start out with the game itself, more specifically its packaging.

    COMIC BOOKS/NOVELS/DOUJINSHI

    Official Comic Book
    I will call it "manhwa" (korean comic book) due to its authors' nationality but it can also be called "manga" because it was first serialized in a japanese magazine. (e.g. "Shin Angyo Onshi")

    FINAL FANTASY XI ?THE OUT OF ORDERS?
    In 2004, a Japanese-exclusive manhwa titled Final Fantasy XI ~The Out of Orders~ was created by artist Kim Byung Jin and story writer Kim Sungjae.
    Firstly published on the comic magazine "Young Gangan" (Bamboo Blade, DQ: Emblem of Roto, Ubel Blätt...) of Square-Enix, FINAL FANTASY XI ?THE OUT OF ORDERS? only lasts three months before being unserialized due to his writer's circumstances.
    The writer serves the excuse that he didn't have the time to fully understand the game's content (note: he's korean) and told many times he was struggling trying to get a complete view of Vana'Diel in little time.
    A notification of the reserialized manhwa in fall 2005 was seen but only for a short time. With the fact that some jobs can't equip some kind armors and some weapons can't be dual wielding, the writer couldn't get a grasp of the game mechanics.
    Also due to the low sales, the serialized manhwa was a failure which the details remain unclear.
    (I wish I could wear Adaberk with my SAM like the main character of this manhwa.)

    I like those 2 the most.

    If they ever released a Qiqirn Plush I'd most likely get it.

    However, I think one line of merchandise that would sell verly well would be Beastman Hats. I'd be pre-ordering Yaguda and Qiqirn. [-o<

    Edit: Thanks for the info Luciferu! I'm looking forward to the rest of the images/descriptions.

    I actually got that one as a gift at a LS meeting. Plus a Plush Tonberry (which is green, without any doubt).

    Excuse the bad picture quality. Cam was drunk.

    Clearly it is not green, but turquoise. Don't argue with me! D:

    Some packages may include the limited edition Ridill accessory. Odds are 1:1 packages.
    Beat me too, fixed, and tiger is purple.

    Edit: thanks for the info, now all these items are JP onry?

    If you honestly think that tiger is purple, your eyes really need to be checked.
