Final Fantasy IV - Tokyo Game Show 2007

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=n-Sr9G8XWEU

We learn a few things from this:

    - Voice acting is confirmed for not just the CG cutscenes, but actual dialogue. Voice acting will make it into the English version, thankfully.
    - There's a strong emphasis on showing more emotion with the characters.
    - Vocals for the FF4 main theme song
    - An obviously much better facelift (and more passion/effort put into the project) than the work they did with FF3.
    - I spazzed out at the Rydia CG cutscene.

A big 3D facelift isn't the only update Final Fantasy IV is receiving in its trip to the DS. Square Enix is also adding voice acting to better tell one of the series' classic story lines. Today, the company announced the Japanese voice actor cast.

Square Enix is apparently planning on getting the voice job right. The list of previous work for the for the cast includes such big productions as Blood+, D.Gray-man, Saiyuuki, Galaxy Angel, Dragon Ball Z, Hajime no Ippo, and Naruto.

    Here's the full cast:

    Cecil: Shizuma Hidoshima
    Rosa: Yuko Kaida
    Kain: Koichi Yamadera
    Gilbert: Ryo Horikawa
    Rydia: Noriko Shitaya
    Palom & Porom: Rie Kugimiya
    Yan: Tesshou Genda
    Edge: Hiroya Ishimaru
    Cid: Ichiro Nagai
    Fusoya: Banjou Ginga
    Tellah: Gorou Naya
    Globez: Takeshi Kaga

With FFIV getting the full voice treatment, we can only assume the upcoming remakes of FFV and FFVI will follow. Suddenly, playing games you've played a few times before doesn't sound too bad.
    Original article.

They've really beat FFIV to death with releases for the SNES, PSX, GBA, and now the DS, but the DS version truly looks like something you'd want to replay.

^Good question. And yes I am so stoked for this game. My fave FF by far.

I've heard this is due for a December release too.

Hopefully that's a typo because he wouldn't be much of a spoony bard without his original name.

Re: Final Fantasy IV - Tokyo Game Show 2007

The first scene from the IGN trailer where it shows Kain looking at Cecil and Rosa from the distance, is just perfect. The music is so pretty too, I can't wait for this.

Rydia is like my favorite FF character ever, so I'd buy this game just for her.

I can't honestly begin to estimate how many times I've played through FF4, and I'll definitely be buying this and doing it all over again. FF4 is my favorite of the series (followed closely by 6 and 9), and every new detail they add about this one gives me goosebumps.

FFIV's ending is also by far the best of the series. Pretty much every character gets closure.

    And <3 Rydia.

The only thing that could have made 4's ending better, is a certain proposal from someone, to someone

And I just saw the Youtube trailer, and I squealed irl at the few seconds of Rydia we got to see. OMG.

Didn't need that proposal. It was charming to see the little sprites act everything out. Edge jumping and turning away is just perfect.

Actually because I found the original sprite 'acting' so charming I really wonder if these new voiced chunky polygonal models can really replace it...going to take some getting used to...particularly all the scenes with Palom and Porom.

That is odd they changed Edward's name. Must be for all the translation stuff they have been talking about.

And yea the story especially for this game was just so ahead of its time. So much character depth it is insane. So many story twists, from the love of Rosa and Cecil to the conflict between Cecil and Kain, to the sadness of Palom and Porom being stoned. The game is amazing on so many different levels.

Also, this was the game to introduce the ATB system correct?

Yup, and that's what made the fights in the last few dungeons so damn hard. Mobs that could basically chain cast holy to wipe you out if you didn't keep reflect up the entire time.
