Thread: Low man Kirin

    Low man Kirin

A discussion's come up in LS regarding Kirin, and I was wondering what y'all thought about low-manning him? We know you can kill him in minutes with a TP burn group, we know you can kite him with eh.. 24+ people? But if you were to kite him and kill all 4 mini-gods, how many people do you figure you would need? I'm thinking...

For the mini-gods and DD afterwards:
    NIN/DRK
    WAR
    MNK or WAR?
    RNG? For Shadowbind~
    BRD
    WHM

    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    RDM/DRK

    For kiting:
something x4 or less. 3x WAR?
    RDM
    WHM
    (BRD?)

Looking at it now maybe I could lop off a BLM or two, though it'd take longer, but do you think that would get through the kite/mini-god phase without a wipe? Comments/suggestions welcome. Yes I know it's faster to melee burn it but I may not have the manpower for that.

you have like 17-18 ppl listed there, I've TPburned and killed t2t with 18 before.

It may take a while, but I bet you could do it with:

    Kite PT:
    RDM/WHM
    NIN/WAR

    Kill PT:
    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    BRD
    RDM

Wouldn't be too hard if they all had gaiters, too. Maybe need a RNG? I honestly don't know if BLMs can bind a mini version of Suzaku or not. Either way, I bet you could do it with 10 or so if you wanted to add in another tank to help keep the BLMs safe.

you can do kirin with 16ish without having to kite 4 mini gods but youll have to kite kirin when you fight him.

Sorry, t2t? I'm tired and it's not coming to me. x.x But did your TP burn involve the usual kraken DRKs and stuff? I don't think we have access to enough of them to do it that way.

I think I'd need another tank or two for kiting while the mini-gods are up, as I've always done it with at least two. One invariably dies. x.x

I'm cool with this. I hadn't been expecting to kite all the mini-gods anyways since all of em but Genbu are pretty quick and no gaiters or anything here. Kiting Kirin was my plan as well. Was your setup something similar to the one I posted up in the OP?

Ah, I misunderstood; I thought this was a hypothetical thing. Yeah, if you were actually doing it and were worried about losing the pop set, go with what you had in your original post.

t2t = toe to toe. Had a BLM PT, Melee PT and tank PT. Kited Kirin, killed minis and then just t2t Kirin. Did it once with just 18 ppl.

We had one KC DRK for our Kirins and one Mkris DRK but neither put up amazing numbers that a monk couldn't have filled in for them. alot of time they even died quikly or lagged our or something, so the highest I've seen them hit is like 14k dmg, they usually put up 11-13k, if they live long enough. I personally usually hit 10k on my MNK, as well as our other MNKs, so it might take 10s longer but it's definately doable without KC DRKs.

This was the parse from one of our 18 man TPburns. Only 11 melee, 3 BRDs and 3 WHMs and a RDM.

Knolan was KC DRK and died in about 3s. Pharoahe was MKris DRK and ate the wrong food or was using a new set-up, I forget. BB, Soul Kiwi and Myself were MNK/WAR, Baha, Izzu and Igni were WAR/NIN, Vince THF and DEX RNG. So it's definately doable without major KC DRK power.

The lowest we killed it with was 15, and atleast 1 of those was being 2-box'd. As long as Kirin doesn't pop out the gods one right after the other it's pretty easy, and you don't have to worry about CFH on any of the summons and crap.

I've done it with 15 people.

This was the setup (as best I can remember):

    Kite party:

    NIN/DRK
    NIN/DRK
    RDM/WHM
    WHM/BLM
    BRD/WHM

    Tank/melee party (for adds):

    PLD/WAR
    WHM/BLM
    RDM/DRK
    SAM
    SAM
    THF

    Mage party:

    BLM
    BLM
    BLM
    RDM

Pretty self explanatory. The kite party holds Kirin, the BLMs burn Genbu, Seiryu/Byakko are killed normally (BLMs go balls to the wall during Perfect Dodge), PLD uses Sentinel during Hundred Fists (no Shadowbind needed). RDM/DRK Chainspells Suzaku (again, no Shadowbind needed). Kite party BRD would switch to the mage party for ballads and then back again. If you want to ensure victory, you can have the SAMs do solo-light on Seiryu and Suzaku to make sure they go down fast (since obviously have both up at once can feasibly wipe you, if you aren't well prepared with ES Bind and so on).

I've done it the conventional way with what I think was 17 before. It wasn't quite a perfect configuration and I'm sure the strategy could have been perfected down to 14 or so if it wasn't the first time like that. I wouldn't be shocked if a relic horn could knock the number down to some absurdly low number like 12. You probably would want some melee burst damage for byakko since it is the biggest pain out of the summons for blms. (I'd probably go w/ a ranger or 2 and get shadowbind as a bonus) I'd say it all depends on how much you value to pop items because of the summon order and timing being luck based. I personally didn't feel the risk/reward was worth it even though we won.

Thanks for the replies, guys. It sounds like it's doable at least, which is good to hear, unless luck is against you. I think I like the sort of strat that Therin set up (I'd completely forgotten about Sentinel, it's been that long), and maybe we'd be able to manage holding him during the kill phase for some melee burn action til it got messy and then just kite moar. Thanks for your thoughts!

Think the worst setup I've done it with was 15 including 2 2boxes and only 2 blm <_<

    Kite party:
    PLD/NIN
    RDM/BLM
    WHM

    Tank party for minigods:
    NIN/DRK
    PLD/NIN
BRDx2, one 2boxed by nin other by blm
    RDM/DRK
    BLM

    DD Party:
    WARx2
    DRG
    RNG
    RDM
    BRD

Any half decent RDM can bind seiryu forever, any job can kite Genbu easily, and 2nd tank is insurance if suzy/bya come out together and you're killing slowly. If people are prepared its not really a very big deal, add party tanks changed to DD jobs and sky warped back after adds.

Edit:Kited kirin before adds done, straight tanked afterwards. Nothing special, the new shield bash is <3 for stonega 4.

It's been a while since I did Kirin, but don't the babies also have the associated en-damage effects also? In which case sentinel won't really work, since it won't stop the magical elemental damage on each hit. I'd add a RNG anyway, just to be safe.
