FFXI Plot-holes and unclear issues

I think a lot of people forget it because it was only brought up once, but late in CoP there's a flashback of Eald'narche talking to Selh'teus about the end of Paradise, and he mentions that the Zilart "were reduced from the superior life forms of a higher plane into these flawed and insignificant forms." He gained the knowledge of this from the incident with the mothercrystal that locked his age, but it seems the Zilart existed in another form before the creation of Vana'diel. (aerns?) Even after that they were still immortal though as they didn't have the emptiness inside of them until some of them started to be born as Kuluu.

1) The only time Altana has directly shown herself was in the Empyreal Paradox.. which is in itself pretty hard to describe, but maybe you can say its in the presence of a mothercrystal. She probably subsists somewhere on a higher plane.

2) There is no uniform cycle of life in FFXI. Generally speaking, all life returns to the crystal, which is the belief of followers of Altana, but also shown to be pretty factual. Lion never died, she threw herself at the crystal core of Tu'Lia and was "trapped" within the crystal.

Aht Urhgan mythos does however mention an underworld, which seem to be governed by Odin. supposedly its a place where souls are trapped for damnation, not unlike the real world concept of hell.

That said, there are many characters shown in the story that die and don't seem to return to the crystal or go to hell. They retain existence as a ghost, or a monster or don't appear to be different from a living person.. (kinda like unsent in FFX).

So where does Hades fit in, because I thought Hades is suppose to be the underworld?

Also, Altana is the biggest asshole even though ironically she is worship as all mighty. I mean, it's been awhile since I've looked back on WoTG but Lilth calls Cait Sith and Altana on their bullshit, and the only response is NO U from Cait Sith. Cait Sith has to be the biggest tool which is no surprise since Altana is pretty much an asshole. The villains made more sense and it makes me rage that we couldn't choose to side with Lilth.

While its true that Vana'diel is paradise (1 mothercrystal) sundered, there actually isn't any indication that Zilart became flawed because of this, if they indeed existed before paradise was destroyed. It appears that the Zilart simply believed they came from paradise but have never exhibited proof of this. and to begin with they're perfect lifeforms because they don't possess emptiness. In this sense, its possible Eald'narche was merely interpreting the vision the crystal gave, and then shared it with the whisper of the soul and everyone believed him. Prior to this, I don't think the Zilart had aspirations of opening the Gates to paradise at all, but i could be wrong.

So where does Hades fit in, because I thought Hades is suppose to be the underworld?

nowhere yet. There's been absolutely no real lore mention of Hades yet, altho its probably a plot point in Seekers. It's only a name referenced in items and Gates of Hades, thus far.

and yes, Altana is a douche, as revealed in WotG.

technically speaking the only deities in FFXI are altana, promathia, the celestial and terrestrial avatars and other avatars that exist.
atomos is the only one you don't really fight. phoenix as well i guess. altana is represented by lilith ascendant.

i don't remember if there's a deity in the aht urhgan religion, ie the teachings of walahra. if Zahak counts, well, we can fight that one too.

Unlike cruor and ichor, I could not find any real-world definition for the word Bayld. The closest thing is Bayldonite, a rare and obscure mineral. It's pronounced "Baildinite" so Bayld is pronounced "Bailed" as in "bailed out of prison".

One thing that I want to know: Cruor is deeply implied the shattered, crumbly remains of the (Abyssean?) mothercrystal after Promathia did his whole fusion dance thing. Bayld is given almost the exact same physical description as cruor, except that its colored white (or cream-colored? I forget). So what could bayld possibly turn out to be in the end?

Yeah they talk about in the mog house storage quests after you put your beds in etc. and also in the mog tablet / kupofried lore. They just say very vaguely it's to the west iirc and but "west" has always been a tricky word in FFXI lore. Pre-CoP "west" often referred to like Tavnazia because that was furthest west on the mainland. Now "west" means far-west in Ubulka. But since those house upgrade quests are so old (like original game old) who knows what they mean by "west". I don't think it matters and won't ever show up in the game it's just for lore reference. Basically it was some fuckin place over there to the left of the mainland.
