Poster's out. Listen to this while viewing.
Came to post this...looks awesome
All....the....wants...now!!!! Guilty of being a Tolkien fanboy since age 8. In fact The Hobbit was the very first fantasy book I read. Been addicted to reading (mostly fantasy) ever since.
BIG SPOILERS...for whoever hasnt read the books...
Spoiler: show
Awesome poster.
It does and it doesn't, but it also intensifies the disappointment of book readers who didn't like seeing this torn into 3 films, let alone the disappointment of what they've held back for the final installment rather than giving a better payoff to end the second film.
Spoiler: show
Yup. Although
Spoiler: show
Would be dumb though.
Hmm interesting points there. Guess it totally depends on which side you are. Either you like the expanded take on the books or you don´t. I like it mostly though some unecessary scenes could´ve just straight up been left out, while other things could´ve been a little bit more deeply explored (and I´m not talking about the elf/dwarf romance here) but that´s just personal preference I guess. But yeah I kinda doubt your spoiler take on things, at least the first bit.
i like the general idea of the expanded story, but some things i think were over-done, like the barrel scene. in the books they stay sealed in the barrels until just outside laketown. esgaroth i think it's called? that whole scene was entirely unnecessary and too silly.
i mean if you go back and read the hobbit, there's PLENTY of room to expand without directly contradicting the book. Bilbo is kind of a lazy author. Unless it's balin or thorin talking, the dwarves' dialogue is almost always just a vague "and the dwarves said 'blah.'" and much of the story happens while Bilbo is knocked out/asleep/not paying attention/doing his own thing, so he just fills in with brief summaries of what he was told happened, as best he can remember them.
but i honestly doubt they'll hold even to that. i can't really see them doing the battle of five armies with bilbo just laying there unconscious the whole time.
Dat barrel scene...yeah. I agree there´s tons of potential material to expand on. I like what they´ve done so far with the Gandalf/Necromancer ark and pray to all the gods they don´t fuck that up somehow.
They hollywooded a few scenes like the trolls and barrels for sure. Neither of those parts had fighting in the book, but I guess you gotta give the people their action.
the troll scene had fighting. not as much as the movie, but fighting.
Hollywood gotta hollywood with dem action scenes.
@1:35 or bust imo.
SPOILER FOR SMAUG BATTLE
Spoiler: show
Did not like the way the "black arrow" was portrayed in the film, but I can't remember if that is more accurate to the book description or not
Putting Smaug aside, there's still the Battle of the Five Armies and also the whole fall of Dol Guldur story to finish up, which is what they've used to make this a three movie series, to tie into the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Considering everything that's left, I really wish they'd have cut the ridiculous chase scenes, in both movies, and the whole dwelf romance.
^ I concur. I think 3 movies was a good move, but each of the movies was about 20 minutes too long. Peter could have trimmed them up much cleaner than what we ended up getting.
I think the first one could have done without the mine, second one without the river. Would have been fine.
His problem is he keeps going for epic instead of good.
