Default Music 2007 Thread3: Best Shows!

We've had some threads collecting how people have felt about music over the last year, and music threads always seem to be very popular on this board, so lets continue

    Thread #1
    Favorite Album 2007

    Thread #2
    Worst Album 2007

SO this one is simple, what are your favorite shows you saw this year, I was inspired because I went to a GREAT show last night, Soul Asylum plays show at First Ave every christmas and I've been going for five years now, and last nights show was easily the best show of theirs I've ever been to, and I've been to quite a few. However, thanks to a lack of openers it didn't crack the top 3...

1)POS welcome home show at the Entry, September
I remember when I left this show I said to myself that might be the best show I've ever been too, it was four groups long which I normally hate, but every band was so good I kept thinking POS is going to wish he didn't book such great openers because it's going to make him look bad, but it literally got better and better with every act. Millionth Word, Digitata, Kill the Vultures and POS all absolutly killed it.

2)Dosh Lost take release show, March???
I won't lie to you, I included this show because I know I don't have the best memory in the world and I didn't want to have all fall/winter shows in my top3, it was between this the IIDaggers show(which was awsome) and the Sea vs. Shining Sea show(which I don't remember anything about other than liking it) So I went with the Dosh show, mostly because Dosh is incredible to watch live, and having Andrew Bird there to play with him really added to the show.

    3)Doomtree Blowout 3, December
I've been a huge Doomtree fan for like 4 years now, I actually missed the first blowout which apperently was a good thing because the Varsity was way too small and the line literally went 3 blocks down the road. This is the second Blowout in the First Ave mainroom, which I've been to both, and this one was a great format. Going one by one, creating literally no downtime from about 8:30 all the way to 1am was pretty awesome.

I'm sorry my list is kinda obscure, I listen to mostly local stuff :elmer:

December 21st, Calgary AB: Jingle Bell Rock (Rise Against headlining).

This was the third time that Rise Against was playing Calgary this calendar year, with their second time headlining. This might have been their best effort yet. Through the entire set lasting close to 90 minutes, they had the crowd jumping and singing along. They even changed up their set list from the first two performances - this was the first time I had heard "Alive and Well", "Torches", "Obstructed View" and "Rumours of my Demise..." live. But they still played all the favourites, including an extended intro to "Dancing for Rain", and Tim doing a solo acoustic performance of "Swing Life Away". His crowd banter is short and kept to a minimum, but it all feels so goddamn sincere.

Can't fucking wait to see them back in town after their fifth album. :D

I'm extremely excited to go see the tour with Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, and Dillinger Escape Plan. Comes to my area Feb. 1. Will definitely be there barring me dying or something.

I only went to one show this year: Van Halen.

It was probably one of (if not the) best shows I've ever seen. It spoiled me, really; I think if I had seen any other concert after, I would've been severely disappointed.

Now here's hoping Led Zeppelin 08...

I went to see the White Stripes back in August I believe it was, and their shows are still as good as they were when I saw them for the first time. Jack White is definitely one of the best guitarist of our time, even if people don't like his music.

I also went to Projekt Revolution, and while not all of the artists were great, JulienK, My Chemical Romance, and Linkin Park all did outstanding jobs.

I've seen Rise 4 times now (skipped the Edmonton Jingle Bell Rock this year, but saw them in 2006's), and they're quite amazing. I must say that I regret not going now because I love "Rumors of my Demise..." and that would've been fun to hear live. As for the piano intro to Dancing for Rain (I assume that's what you're referring to), they've been doing that for years.

The show of the year for me goes to August Burns Red's October 2007 Starlite Room performance. Unearth and Darkest Hour were there too, but I only went to see ABR, and oh my God, how I want to see them again. I even met Jake alone in a hall after the show, and man, I'm not going to lie... we embraced. He was sweaty, we embraced, and I liked it.

Concerts I went to this year(ones I remember):

    G3(Satriani, Gilbert, Petrucci)
    Pink Floyd/Roger Waters
    The Police
    Van Halen
    Steve Vai

The best one I saw was Van Halen hands down. I wish I could have seen it twenty years ago when they had a bit more energy but they still put on the best show I've seen in my life. Roger Waters was also good but Van Halen put it to shame.

    Hopeful 2008 concerts:

    Iron Maiden
    Led Zepplin
    Wolfmother
    Velvet Revolver
    Satriani
    Gilbert
    Tool

Only the Iron Maiden one is confirmed, but you know hopefully.

It wasn't with the piano, just with guitars. :x And I don't doubt that they always do that, I just love it so fucking much. <3

Ah, you missed out then! They've always done it with a piano backtrack then the guitars for the extended intro at the shows I've gone to, and boy does it sound nice.

Oh man, I'm so jealous! I wanted to see POS this year and almost sucked it up to go and catch them while they were on Vans, but in the end I couldn't make myself do it, haha.

In the same vein, hands down best show of the year (maybe of my life!) was Atmosphere's "Evereyone Loves a Clown" tour (around the beginning of October). I was worried about the openers (Luckyiam, hadn't heard him solo, Grayskul and Mac Lethal), but it was GREAT, everyone had great acts and high energy, and now Mac Lethal is definitely one of my favorites. Slug was testing out new tracks for next years album, but he did a lot of old shit too and it was great, since it was my first time seeing them and they're my favorites EVER, I can't even explain how awesome it was. Plus, after the show everyone hung around afterwards since it was a small venue and I got to talk to everyone!!

Saw Darren Hayes (of Sound Garden) @ The World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, and even though i was there to see Nathan Walters with my sister, I must say he really impressed me and we ended up staying through the whole thing. His voice has to be heard live to be believed, his range is incredibly impressive without being in the studio. If anything he sounded better live than when I later listened to his recorded music. He's pretty funny too, even though he's a pretty crass Aussie.

    This year I saw:

    Static-X and they always deliver

Less Than Jake, one of my all time favorite bands, always kick ass as well.

Rob Zombie & Ozzy Osbourne just last sunday, omg pwnage, though they had the amps cranked way up, and even by my standards it was a bit too loud.

I think that was all I saw this year, if I saw more I can't remember so...this is my list for favorite shows of 07.

Oh ya I also saw Kaos. He was amazing on stage but he showed up 3 hours late and his opening band SUCKED. We actually Boo'd the opening act off because we ran out of things to throw at them.
